DLC for Amid Evil was just released, a prequel campaign called The Black Labyrinth. Looks really good, but personally I'm waiting for the VR version (supposedly coming soon):

Well I finished Quake II, the Recoking DLC, Quake 64 and started on Call of the Machin, but I think I will stop now as I feel very Quaked-out. As fun and tight as the gunplay is, there is only so much killing of the same enemies using the same weapons in the same brown corridors I can take it. Nevertheless, a fun 15hr ride (minus a few dick hidden enemies, like those lazer shooters)
Now, one thought I have, which I realize is quite controversial and in fact might get me cancelled - Quake is at its best in the early stages, when you have limited arsenal, ammo and enemies. I noticed this across playing the 4 different scenarios. Using the initial pistol, machine gun and shotgun, against slightly weaker enemies, and with more limited ammo, actually required me to be a lot more tactical, aim more precisely, use cover and listen to enemy sounds to time my attacks, and consider what weapon I used at what distance. But as you go on, and have rocket launchers plus abundance of medkits, and encounter more and more bullet-sponge-y enemies, any sense of tactics kinda flies out the window. It's all about circle strafing and spamming your best weapon as the enemies easily eats 5+ rockets to the face, or cheesing these bullet-sponge enemies by backing out across corridors and spamming the granade launcher around corners. It's just starts to feel... really repetitive, and both enemy and weapon variety starts to matter less and less.
While both approaches are fun in their own right, I find the initial, more tactical approach, a lot more varied and engaging than the later circle-strafe-holding-fire gameplay.

It's a classical and obvious "problem" of a '90s FPS :D 'cause back then it was not a problem :p It's us, we've changed as gamers, we need "more complexity".

:erm: System Shock is older than Quake. Heck, Thief:TDP and SS2 released in the late 90's.

A very solid DLC, 4 hours or about the length of two large episodes of the original game, tight enemies and some great new setpieces. I just wish the "labyrinth" aspect was stronger, some paradoxical maze-like structures inspired by The Void episode would have been great. RTX is as great as ever (don't forget to turn DLSS on).
I bought the VR version but have skipped it altogether for now, it didn't run well on my machine last time I tried. But I have yet to spend any time tuning the configuration.

They're not FPS :| I'm talking about '90s FPS

 Ah, right, the FPS had no complexity so long as by FPS you don't mean FPS, you mean FPS without complexity.

Pedantic semantics aside, I disagree anyway - I found the best bits of Quake 2 to be the more high-intensity combat with plenty of resources against lots of tough enemies. It became much less fun when I had to scrounge for ammo. I don't want a game like Quake to make me engage in resource management. The strategy should come from skillful movement, aiming and matching the right weapon to the right situation.

It was released on GOG this week, so I'm poking away at it a level or two at a time. Really good stuff so far, even if there's minimal labyrinth stuff in it, on the other hand having the levels be actually labyrinthine might be bad for overall gameplay. But naming it "The Black Labyrinth" does set some expectations. The two new weapons feel good to use, only downside being the rarity of purple mana for the scythe so far.
I also found a secret mini-level (basically just a short walk to a boss with some powerups on the way) which I didn't expect.
