-is the silencer powerup in Quake 2 the most useless powerup to ever exist in a game?
It's on a par with upgrading swimming in Deus Ex.

I'm ok with boomer shooters drawing inspiration from Painkiller and FEAR, but Doom 3 is where I draw the line. What's next, a spiritual successor to Allied Assault.

Yeah Doom 3 is clearly in the next generation. So a Gen X Shooter then?

Zoomer Shooter

FEAR is already too complex. Painkiller is the hardline.

Are people that nostalgic about Doom 3? I bought a new PC back in 2003 specifically for it and Half Life 2, but even with all the hype I remember being underwhelmed. It had good tech, but the shooting felt flimsy compared to the original. I haven't played it since, but I remember liking the expansion more.

I'm here for the Xooters. Imagine, you could have games inspired by Shadowcaster, Heretic, Strife, Descent 2, Witchaven, and Rebel Moon Rising! The mind reels at the possibilities

I did the same thing Aja. Doom 3 looked cool and I liked it at first, but I got tired of its gameplay pretty quick. It didn't help that I got to Doom 3 after Half-Life 2, and after several great Monolith FPS games.
Yakoob - You certainly missed out on Quake 1. It was a game of many firsts for me, and for most people who were into PC gaming back then. It was the first time I played anything really 3D, and the first that took advantage of hardware acceleration, so if you had money to blow on a 3dfx card, you could play it in high res on a big monitor sitting up close with a wide FOV for a VR-like experience. It was also my introduction to mouselook and what became modern FPS controls & bindings. It was also the first action game I'd played with multiplayer over the internet, and the first online game that I could host my own server with. And it caused esports to take off. Any one of those things would have been enough to make it notable and important. But so much new, all in one game really made it feel like a revolution. But you kinda had to be there, because all those things became normal after a few years. Quake 1 is also fast, hard hitting, and super fun to play with friends on a LAN.
