However, take a look at him in
Something's Gotta Give as a doctor who falls in love with an older woman... he sells it, he's got heart, warmth and charisma. He's not always rubber faced Keanu, generally these blockbusters want their protagonists to be stoney, cool and impassive in the face of danger etc. Someone's bad idea of "badass".
I thought he was pretty good in The Devil's Advocate, and, yes, Constantine as well.
He has exactly the right combination of aloofness, "Oh, FFS, what now?," and occasional explosive anger for Spike. At the same time, when he first mentioned the project a few months ago, I was kind of hoping he would end up playing Vicious.

Anyone have any recommendations for me, considering the examples I have given? Thank you.
Samurai Champloo is pretty good, though it essentially
is Cowboy Bebop, set to a hip-hop soundtrack in mediaeval Japan (Watanabe, as usual, has some cooky but hilarious ideas. Just you wait until you see the bit where he pays homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey's opening minute).
Even if it doesn't quite rise to all of Bebop's highs, barring the somewhat boring early-to-middle stretch, it's well worth the watch.

You're right. Having Keanu playing
anything is a bad choice.
That's not entirely accurate, you should hear his Shakespeare. True genius.
Okay, now I'm intrigued. Much Ado About Nothing, eh? Does he get to say, "I am trusted with a muzzle and enfranchised with a clog"?
I ask only because I admire that sort of irony.

"Millennium Actress" was way better than "Paprika" imo, by the same director (Satoshi Kon). Paprika had too much weird shit going on, especially for an anime starter.
I've only seen two of Kon's works, the other being Paranoia Agent. I went for the less weird of the two. Besides, Adult Swim
airs Paranoia Agent, so he's probably already seen that one.
And after that, anything short of FLCL should seem normal.

And Perfect Blue blows them both out of the water.

Actually I'd forgotten about this but I agree.
The movie wasn't that great but he did have that sort of ragged-cool competence going really well. I particularly liked the scenes with Bush guy whose name escapes me; in one of their early encounters it seems like the usual scene where the hero gets leaned on by the big established nasty he'll have to grow to face later on. But no, it's not that movie; Canoe's having none of it and proceeds to fuck his demon shit right up. What's more, I bought it.
Not a great flick by a long shot but it's a got a few quirks that make it a bit more interesting and that rescues it some.
Hmm, Canoespike. It's so crazy it just might work.

To those who say Keanu can't act, you're wrong - I've never seen such intensity and emotion when he stuck his gun into the air and fired all the bullets when he let Swayze escape in Point Break.
trivia: In spanish, this movie's title is
"Le Llaman Bodhi" ("They Call Him Bodhi").
I kid you not.

This is a good point, I had forgotten about it. I like the soundtrack except the opening song, its just so laughably bad when he starts rapping that I just cant listen to it. Other than that it was pretty great all through. It was funny at times, serious at other times, dark at times, very much like cowboy bebop (if you can get past the cliche of samurai and the oh so bad intro rapping).
