Delta variant is NOT well covered by vaccines and it is rather aggressive from a contagion perspective.
There seems to be a correlation between virulence and transmissibility. So far, the dominant strains of the virus appear to be deadlier and deadlier

Which leads to the question of how many of those states are going to do their best to cover up or outright ignore new covid cases moving forward?
When i did daily tracking of US cases, quite long time ago, i noticed that a lot of states did not report daily. They obviously did testing - just not reporting daily (some only reported weekly). Not reporting daily in itself is not a concern ... but it might help politicians in postponing any response especially if they can also suppress testing (dealing with Covid properly is a no win scenario for any politician 90% of the time).

I can't get the vaccine yet (doctor's orders)
Doctors orders? Would you be willing to elaborate why not?
All i can think of is perhaps some immunodeficiency concerns - but i distinctly remember vaccines being recommended for them too (I don't think any of the current vaccines are even live ones. Regardless of how compromised ones immune system is and even if it might not be able to give a solid protection - it still will help when a live virus shows up).
... just thinking out loud.

All countries should have taken a zero-COVID approach (or as close as possible) from the outset.
Letting a virus run rampant while rolling out preventative measures more or less guarantees the emergence of new variants, since large scale reproduction + selection pressure are probably the 2 primary determinants of evolution.
[...]
At the very least, I don't see a future where we aren't getting seasonal vaccines to cover whatever the latest variant is.
Cue throngs of anti-vaxxers claiming that was the plan all along etc... (while never being able to actually point to an effect linked to vaccines which would merit a plan on that scale).
Ugh this has been the most frustrating thing about this whole situation, with the combination of how foreseeable it is that we'd get a bunch of exciting new variants under these conditions, and having proved early on that elimination strategies work (right up until the virus sneaks in again from another country that didn't use that kind of strategy, anyway). Honestly, given how well governments' responses have aligned with the conditions that encourage new variants it's almost surprising that we
don't see conspiracy theories about that, where there's some sinister plot to put the world into a state where there are always new variants springing up and we have to play vaccine whack-a-mole forever to, uh, sell more vaccines? I'd just about believe it myself if such timeless staples of government as short-term economic thinking, politicians' small-time self-interest, and general incompetence didn't provide a much stronger explanation.

Vaccines are NOT remunerative.

And I could say the opposite for AstraZeneca, 'cause of the thrombosis cases linked (right or NOT is not important for the financial aspect) to the vaccine have literally destroyed the trust in that company (here in Italy).

Interesting ... my vision has gotten significantly more blurry over the last 6 month or so, so much that I really couldn't read well without zooming texts in on my computer to be orcishly big.
While it's in the whole long covid pipeline, it'd been persistent enough that I just started assuming the old lenses were just getting old. But today for a while everything was suddenly perfectly clear, as clear as it'd ever been, and I can see this tiny text quite clearly. I don't think this can be a lens issue.
So yeah ... Respect your autonomic system people & get your vaccines. This illness, which preys on it, is messed up.

My immune system is pretty weak right now after a major stroke, endarterectomy, thoracic surgery for the removal of a malignant nodule in my right lung as well as the removal of the top lobe of that lung (lobectomy) and now heart issues that portend yet another surgery. All of which have happened in the past 10 months. Though my oncologist & doctor of rehabilitation therapy (the stroke affected the whole of the right side of my body, leaving that side with a significant loss of strength, coordination & endurance, as well as a speech impediment) say (the equivalent of) what the heck, get the vaccine, my primary care doctor & cardiologist are still hesitant to give the go-ahead. I have four doctors (not counting two surgeons) and not all of them agree, so who do I listen to? I actually called my PCP's office last Thursday to have a discussion on the subject, not that I'd try to coerce him into agreeing with the other two since he knows me best and has been my doctor for well over a decade, but with the Delta variant on the loose I'm beginning to get apprehensive. No response from him yet. It's very frustrating and beginning to feel like, for me, getting the vaccine is a crapshoot.

All my wishes to get better, for what it can mean by a stranger on a forum!
