If you'd like the actual facts about the situation please invest two hours into This Week in Virology episode 762 where actual intelligent, responsible experts lay out what we know. Then listen to it again because I know you didn't get it the first time around.

They do have several other episodes in the backlog that discuss the matter if you'd like to educate yourself further, I promise it's worth the effort.

You can't beat with plain rationality the paranoia distorted pseudorational force. It's simply impossible in humans.
You can "explain" everything correctly and according to science but it's the narrative that matters (for intelligent people too: paranoid people ARE intelligent, they're not morons, but they're more susceptible to narrative).
Just remembering the simple fact that science isn't "market-indipendent" (it isn't) or "ambition-indipendent" reinvigorates the conspiracy narrative. You can't have "convincing objectivity" in a market-driven world. It's like the uncertainty principle, it's a structural limit no matter how "true" is the truth (and it can totally be, but that's no what matters in the post-truth world and there's no solution for that - trying to find "authority" solutions gets the problem worse -> "
It's like 1984!!1111 They're manipulating you!!111 Wake up!!111" tactical victimhood claims).

You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.
Experts = "in on the conspiracy".
Our good buddy nbohr here wrote off (

Problem is: paranoid thinking is (pseudo)rational and confirmation bias is a self-supporting mechanism so there's really no way to fight it in a market-driven world where every competence is monetizable (so every "scientific evidence" can be carefully forged for money).
It's like to ask a person to NOT breath 'cause there's the air pollution.
Being the air pollution totally REAL and TRUE!But that's NOT what's matter. This would be the answer:
Fuck the air pollution theory!!111 A FORGED theory!??!?! Bastards!!111 It's a travesty, a machination, they want to choke me in reality!!1111 Better, they want me choking myself to death!!111
Let me breath! (you techcnocratic burocrats and libtards minions)Paranoid thinking is survival instinct/drive related, you can't rationally cope with instinct.
It's a flawed heuristic, but it's still there (here).

Well, Robert Garry is the last author on that paper so I guess TWiV 762 is a no go! And I think Ian Lipkin was a guest on another episode sometime last year. How deep does the conspiracy go??!1 :wot:

Was "Peter Daszak" ever a guest on this show?
The paper in question was hosted on a website which is sponsored by a DNC aligned science agency run by Neera Tanden ( Hillary's campaign manager ).
I am happy to watch anything related to the topic, but it seems that even mainstream news sources like Washington Post are giving credence that it is possible
that this is a Lab Leak and Facebook (etc) are no longer censoring Lab Leak posts.
Robert Garry was highly visible on CNN as a vocal "debunk" of the theory.
Ian Lipkin hand delivered SARS samples to China and is a Gain-of-Function evangelist:
(
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Ian_Lipkin#Views_on_gain-of-function_research)
If anyone can demonstrate a virologist who:
1) Isn't constantly on MSM news sources
2) Isn't funded by DNC aligned groups
3) Isn't tied to Gain of Function research in China
4) Isn't a rabid leftist who only trusts other scientists from items 1 to 3
that would be great.
Until then, I will continue to believe that a worldwide pandemic that just happens to coincide with a monumentally partisan election cycle with a POTUS who is at war with
the Deep State really means that we have been mass murdered by the CIA.
Just the same playbook of mass murder that the CIA uses to control 2nd \ 3rd world elections now aimed domestically.
Election cycle controlled. Mission accomplished.
Now it's time to kill all those who stirred up the defiance:
Christopher Sign ( journalist who discovered the Clinton "Tarmac Meeting" ) commits suicide:

By the way, nbohr1more, what is your opinion on alien abductions?

Lab leak != engineered
The US mainstream media suddenly started talking about a possible lab leak after Biden announced an investigation. The Biden administration was careful to say that they were only considering the possibility of an accidental lab leak of a naturally evolved virus. There is a general consensus among subject matter experts that the virus is of natural origin, not engineered. The question is whether it was passed into the human population via animal contact e.g. the wet market theory vs. accidentally released from the lab.
There is a big difference between a lab studying a natural virus and a lab engineering a virus to infect humans. The former questions Chinese lab practices and safety protocols. The latter would be a violation of the Biological Weapons Convention treaty.
And I think the reason why the Biden administration suddenly announced their investigation is that super PACs stated running ads in April attacking Biden and Democrat Congress members for being weak on China.

By the way, nbohr1more, what is your opinion on alien abductions?
Even though it is VERY unlikely that Aliens advanced enough to traverse light-years of space to reach another inhabited planet
to also still require physically contacting humans for biological samples, MRI data, or social interaction details when we currently have
the technology to gather all or most of this remotely or with little visible interaction...
People should be allowed to discuss them and should not be censored.
I mostly feel that Alien Abduction stories are released by the intelligence agencies so that when outsiders accidentally see advance military aircraft they can be
called cranks and be easily dismissed.
