I was wondering how the distancing, better hygiene and mask wearing might impact on other viruses.
Be curious to see how things like norovirus are impacted too.

Imagine the flu gets eradicated entirely

There's not one "flu", so I'm not sure about that.
But on that train of thought, the alternative is imagine coronavirus is never eradicated and keeps coming in waves every few years like the flu, just with a much higher death rate.
I can't imagine most countries going through the same sweeping lockdowns by the time we're on the fourth or fifth round of this, to say nothing of 20, 30 years down the road.
It's kind of a downer to think about though. I can say for myself I'm sure I'll be getting yearly covid19 shots like I've never done with annual flu shots though.

COVID cases in the US already down 30%
Amazing. Uncle Joe is saving lives already. Imagine how high it would be under Orange Fuckhead.

Before the BCG vaccine, it was pretty much part of daily life to be losing siblings to consumption left and right.
There's every possibility that the last 100 years were nothing but a brief golden age where we got a little bit on top of diseases for a spell.

Yeah, I'd also keep an eye on antibiotic resistance in that regard. As well as MRSA there are some pretty stubborn variants of gonorrhea emerging, and UTIs could also get a lot scarier. Some kinds of surgeries are going to get more and more risky as infections get harder to treat.
The worst part is that so much of this is/was avoidable, from the misuse of antibiotics in agriculture to most countries failing to shut things down for long enough to eradicate the coronavirus. If our society wasn't so recklessly devoted to a capitalist economy we'd be in a much better position.

It’s not too late to do that. Biden has the power to declare a national emergency, give EVERY citizen a food ration that will last four weeks, and then immediately declare a 100% shutdown where ANYONE who steps outside their own property is immediately detained and disinfected at a quarantine facility.

UAE shouldn’t be praised. They’ve exploited the crisis to become a travel hotspot. Tourists then go back to spread the Infection in their host country. They’re called a super spreader for a reason.

Don't be so hyperbolic, we got rid of it over here (twice, because it got back in when other countries didn't do a decent enough job) without going all police state, all it really takes is halfway competent and trustworthy-enough leadership. There is plenty that could have been done better (like cancelling rent, both residential and commercial, for the duration, and the benefit situation should have been handled much better), but if the USA and Europe had acted faster and more competently and stuck it out for a bit longer, we'd all be in a considerably better situation, with less cumulative sitting around at home by now.
