What rules has he broken? He only pops in on rare occasion, spews some random conspiratorial bullshit, which may go so far as to garner a small, contained discussion calling him out for his bullshit, and then heads off to parts unknown again. He's annoying in the way that unreasonable people usually are, but he's not actively disruptive, not in the ways that GMD, Thor, and JK were.
He's stupid, and his opinions are drivel, but, for the time being at least, he's entirely harmless. You can choose to engage him, and get the inevitable expected results, you can make fun of him, or you can ignore him. If he does become an overbearing presence on the board, or does anything that breaks the stated rules, then I will eventually ban him. But until that point comes, I intend to leave him be.
It's not so much that he's stupid, it's that being stupid is his only interaction type. It derails a thread whenever it happens, which seems disruptive enough to me. I dunno, are people having fun chewing him out? If so keep him as a pet I guess.

Renz is great, I respect the job he does if anything he should probly slap me with a temp ban once in a while to keep my verbose tendencies under check
Pyrian on 19/6/2020 at 02:44
Yeah honestly if Renz were any more draconian you'd probably be on the chopping block for off-topic posting.

Frankly, I think a case could be made for certain kinds of bullshit, lies and insanity, the outright, damaging falsehoods, to be deleted by mods. Stuff like Birtherism, vaccines causing autism, Holocaust denial. I honestly don't think that deleting that sort of shit would be overly draconian, and as far as I'm concerned QAnon shit like what we got earlier in the thread falls into that category. If someone then thinks their posts were unfairly deleted, they can always take it up with the mods and make their case.
I understand that this would require more hands-on moderation and that this may not be *feasible*, but it is *possible*.
As far as off-topic weirdness is concerned, I don't mind it that much, but I think it'd be okay to define certain threads as on-topic and others as off-topic, and if things get out of hand in an on-topic thread, again, such posts can be deleted (or moved to a padded cell of a thread).
Again: I don't necessarily think this would be feasible here, because it takes more time, and I'm pretty sure that we wouldn't have a common opinion on whether more hands-on moderation is good or bad, but I've seen forums that have made this work and IMO they're better for it. There's still plenty of discussion, but there's way less shit-flinging of all kinds.

Deleting=feeding the victimhood complex -> "The system wants us dead, so we'll kill the system, we need TERROR".
It's why we got "righteous white terrorism" today.
Remember that internet actions have reality consequences.

They feel like victims even if they've got their mascot in the White House. The current situation shows that seeing yourself as a victim doesn't have to have anything to do with being a victim. The heavily armed police feels like a victim because people might not be altogether happy with the way they deal with the protests or their killings of unarmed black people.

I'd say at the very least slapping a moderation warning on obvious trolling and outright stupidity is called for - it's all well and good to let people have their viewpoints, but if unapologetic rubbish like jkcerda and nbohr's sprees were more tightly regulated with actual, visible warnings and tempbans, they'd simmer down a bit.
edit: I don't want this to take away from what is no doubt not an easy job, Renz, and you're doing your best. IMO it's better to call out crap sooner rather than later and say it's not welcome, especially if it's actively offensive or just plain wrong.

It's why they need "democracy" and not "technocracy".
In a "technocratic" society they will be exposed as pretenders as they are so they discovered "democracy" and "rights" to avoid to be exposed and meanwhile accusing the others to be "dictators" and so play the victim part eternally but happily consuming in the market world,
give me more money you globalist thieving bastards, it's my money, not the bankers money, MINE!!111 and "adult" version of the classic Mary Poppins "penny" scene.

Of course the heads of those parties are happy "real globalists" and tipically (Farage, Le Pen, Trump) rich dorks.

... also, we are having a heatwave here - i cannot function like this.
