That's very optimistic. I think the more people we get on this planet, the more we would have to cooperate and forfeit our freedom to act dumb. Since we're apparently unable to, nature will solve this for us, by reducing our numbers drastically. I'm not trying to sound edgy here, I really think this is the most likely outcome.
EDIT: Acting dumb, ie making your own mistakes, isn't some unimportant freedom. It's freedom itself.

The sadder side to this is that in a few situations, it's better to let people believe something because the outcome of negating it is they're with left with nothing to have faith in. It's a situation that hits me when I try to explain it to my family, especially when it's a critical illness. What do you do when there are no options left? Let someone believe that a mixture of herbs, that turmeric, or magnets, or homeopathy may or may not help, or gently show them that it won't, and explain we're going to see it through together anyway? If only life were that simple; sometimes, the reaction to that would be a righteous anger, and all I can do is show my understanding without being able to proffer a solution, because we don't have the cure or the answers to everything yet.

They smirk because they feel liberated and empowered by having made a conscious choice to distrust the mainstream and found a simpler answer. Something better than reality could offer

I'm having trouble parsing this myself. Facebook auto-filters to a large extent by virtue of it being a social media platform. If you're asking whether they're not filtering endless information every day, they've obviously learned how to ignore posts that present actual science, but not everything else that doesn't.
