There have been some outstanding moments of stupidity in how leaders have handled the pandemic, but this US mayor is something else entirely (25 minute interview):

To quote JK's favourite character: "Some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make."

You know, with all the free time I have during lockdown, you'd think I would be playing games day in, day out. But honestly, I'm not. The motivation is just not there.
Anyone else in the same position? I am however spending a bit more time cooking. Going to be trying that KFC recipe that a Brit posted online a week back.

Actually, it's stressing me the fuck out, and gaming doesn't help much. It's just a momentary reprieve, nothing is solved.
I've got stuff to do, though, so that probably is half of the stress because without clear physical boundaries between work and home, everything blurs into a vague kaleidoscope of shit until I force some structure into it.
However, I have to say that watching Bon Appetit's videos about reverse engineering popular foods featuring a really smart and affable woman, along with its counterpoint which features a man who's basically a golden retriever in a kitchen and is really into fermentation, have somehow managed to quell a bit of the inner disquiet.

I'm feeling that more than expected: the way I work on the same PC and screen all day that's then supposed to help me unwind with a bit of gaming in the evening. It still works, but definitely considerably less well than usually and less well than I'd want it to.

Yeah, it's actually doing my head in a little more than I expected, too. I suppose this is old hat to people who're used to doing it for years, though. There's a special kind of irony in that I've just deconstructed a webinar that talks about exactly this over the past two days because we want to help other people understand what they're experiencing.

I can't even begin to tell you the unreal place the last three weeks have put me in. Time has just left the building.
Where I'm at now (and I've gone through some pretty radically different stages over the last 3 weeks), I can work on a piano piece, read a book, watch a show like Devs, and be actually pretty productive at work & work on my future classes. I can't really do much gaming. The time horizon for an extended game is still too long for me to be able to focus or get motivation. The thing I play the most these days actually is the PC version of Carcassone, the tile game, because you can play a full game in one sitting.

I've heard about that and I like the sound of it, but I'm also pretty certain I'd end up finding the effort not nearly worth the results.

It's really just leaving something to sit in a sugar and salt spice mix for days. But yeah, I usually wouldn't put in the effort to do these things - it's just fun to watch someone else doing it mixed in with some wholesome banter. Brad's video editor is great. It's a fun and personalised take for what's usually a niche topic for cooking.
Having said that, I did have a go at making my own ginger beer last week. Works a treat!
