So, politicians are now to blame for failing to stop disasters caused by utility companies. Except Donald Trump, apparently. How's that work exactly?

you mean other than the fact CA governors are idiots who protect the utility CO's and the fact trump is not in charge of CA?

You'd need to be studying for a Masters in False Equivalents to answer that one, Phatose.

Forests in CA are mostly federal land. Trump cut the funding for forest management on federal land. He literally was in charge of it.

(

Quote:
The President fumbled the name twice, even remarking: 'What we saw at Pleasure ...
what a name, right now,' when addressing the devastation during a tour of the Northern California area that's in fact called Paradise.
'What we saw. We just left Pleasure ...' he began before several people chimed in to correct the 72-year-old.
I am a little surprised he didn't quip about how some prime real estate would be on the market shortly.

There are five more seats remaining (GA-7, NY-22, NY-27, TX-23, and UT-4), all held by Republicans:
* Georgia's 7th district was won by the incumbent Republican, but since it was only by 400 votes or so, there's a recount.
* New York's 22nd district looks likely to flip, with the Democrat in the lead by over 3000 votes.
* New York's 27th district will probably to go to Chris Collins (R), who's leading by a few thousand votes. He's facing an indictment for insider trading, though, so even when he wins, it doesn't look like he'll hold on to the seat for long.
* In Texas's 23th district, the incumbent has a comfortable 1000+ vote lead, but it's still too close to call.
* In Utah's 4th district, Mia Love (R) took a narrow lead, after having been pronounced dead (to him) by Lord Dampnut, but there are still more votes to count.
Update: Democrats nabbed another House seat in Utah, bringing the net gain to 38. Republicans kept their seats in Georgia and Texas, unsurprisingly.
In New York, the Democrats are sure to get the 22nd district, where their candidate leads with 4000 votes and there are only 1900 ballots left to count. The 27th district leans heavily Republican, though, so it will be unlikely to change hands even when the senator resigns or is convicted.
Also, in a surprising twist of events, in California's 21st district, that had been called for a Republican, the Democrat is now only 447 votes behind with 15 000 ballots still left.
So, it looks like in the end the Democrats will pick up 39 or possibly even 40 seats. And that's in a playing field that has been heavily tilted in Republicans' favour by gerrymandering and voter suppression. Plus the Democrats have successfully defended most of the Senate seats that were just waiting to be grabbed by Republicans (10 Democrats defended their seats in states that Lord Dampnut won, including five he won by a lot, whereas only one Republican defended his seat in a state won by Clinton).
In the end, it has been less of a blue wave and more of a blue tsunami (a wave crashes on the shore whereas a tsunami just keeps coming and coming).
