Funny you should mention McCarthy, seeing as McCarthy's lawyer was also Trump's lawyer.

Actually I know nothing about US politics but I think I'm right in saying McCarthyism was about paranoia of Russian infiltration which seems relevant with all this Russian conspiracy stuff.

McCarthy was Republican. Reps from that era were afraid of a socialist infiltration. Russia today isn't socialist; it's kleptocracy. The Dems were a stone's throw away from nominating a literal Socialist as their nominee in the last election. They don't like kleptoratic capitalism, or anyway the authoritarianism of Putin. (Reps today, and Trump definitely, has a hard on for authoritarians, Putin, Duterte, et al.) There were actual Russian spies in the US gov't in the 50s, but they weren't everywhere, and the fear of them was being used to harass people they didn't like (like gays in the military in the case that actually brought him down) which is what made McCarthy the symbol of malicious paranoia. Today there aren't as many Russian spies in the US gov't, but Trump has a long history with Russian oligarchic mafiosos. Dems today aren't paranoid about Russians everywhere, only concerned based on already irrefutable evidence of their infiltration in the US election and with the Trump campaign. Nice try though.
Edit: I mean have you ever watched any mafia movie ever? Trump is in the construction industry and builds massive projects in Russia. Mafia run the construction industry, and above all in Russia. Saying you can become a billionaire in construction and *not* deal with the mafia is the claim that stretches credibility.

When someone edits your comic to turn it into their strawman of choice, that's how you know yours hit home and stung.

As you stated, you know nothing. It's not paranoia if there's proof.

It is a bit more than a strawman though. The McCarthy analogy doesn't really work, but there is an unhealthy obsession with Russia in parts of the Democratic party and the media. Some of that is just politics, playing the game to weaken Trump. But I think a lot of it is due to Democrat's stubborn inability to face up to the root causes of their election losses. Russia is just a scapegoat for the fact that they suck at the polls.

Maybe the story could get a rest if Trump didn't consistently act like a crook in a comedy sketch.

It's not a Rep or Dem obsession. Interference was known before the election. They voted 419-3 and 98-2 in favour of sanctions. Trump discontinued the sanctions in spite of the whole government's acceptance of every agency's findings.

“Artificial intelligence is the future, not only for Russia, but for all humankind. It comes with colossal opportunities, but also threats that are difficult to predict. Whoever becomes the leader in this sphere will become the ruler of the world.”
