Bit confused here. Same/different person? Mixed race?
Yeah, my terminology is probably wrong here, I already second-guessed myself when I wrote this post. Maybe I should've said Asian, but her skin is as brown as many black people who have African origins, so I went with black. I thought if I said Asian people might assume East-Asian (for example Chinese or Japanese) skin color. Sorry if anyone is offended by my wrong terminology, wasn't my intention - we might have broken up because it didn't work out but I have loved her.
edit: damn I feel kinda bad about this. Just as I hate misgendering someone I also want to get terminology concerning racial issues right. It's an English-as-second-language mistake in this case. Hope no one here took my error the wrong way.

I feel a bit offended. Maybe passing me her number could solve this.

Looking in from Europe, you tend to only get one view of US policing, that being the police departments of racially segregated major cities, because that's what makes the news. That's where race relations are the worst, misconduct is most rampant, and the police union is one of the most powerful institutions in the city. Most of us who don't live in such places are reasonably satisfied with our police. But one issue with police culture that seems commonplace everywhere (in the US) is an us vs. them mentality. It's fraternalism taken to an unhealthy degree.
Police training also varies. Around here, you generally need to have a four year university degree to be accepted into the state police academy, although they make exceptions for former military service in certain fields (especially military police). Aside from the state police, a lot of other police academies look for degrees too, but not all do. Academy length varies, usually 4-6 months. Then you go through a probationary period of on the job training under the supervision of a field training officer. The length of that varies, probably averaging a year, but I've heard of some places where it's up to 18 months. So the total training to be a regular police officer is on the order of 1-2 years depending on the department. More specialized roles in law enforcement naturally require more training.

I forget where you are heywood. Can you remind us?

Derry, New Hampshire. It's a suburb of Manchester but the closest major city is Boston, about 45 min away in light traffic.

I've never been afraid of the police either - or Special Branch. I was a bit wary in the 80s when I was doing a lot of protesting and marching but the biggest worry back then was when our police escort faded away when the BNP turned up. But there's a very big BUT. I'm a white middle-class woman who can sound like the Queen when needed so I don't have others' experience. I have imagination though and I have read many accounts of what other people have experienced.
Our police were not good then but I 'believe' that there've been proactive efforts to improve. I might have had a bash with a baton but never have been shot. I do think it makes a massive difference. I think you behave differently when that possibility comes into play.
I understand Trump has quipped that he might have to leave the country if Biden wins. I wonder who he thinks might let him in.

So you've never dealt with the police then? Got it.

What, pray tell, is one supposed to think if you deign to answer a simple question?
There's a perfectly civil discussion going on up in here but your hair trigger seems to be suffering from the old ping ping over rather little or rather not an awful lot. Can't be good for the old nerves. Anyway, have a nice month. I find a cup of tea good for calming one down. Perhaps a slice of babka to accompany?

I'd imagine he'll be looking for a country with no extradition treaty with the USA.
