Well, fear mongering that this exists. Where are they actually doing gender reassignment surgery on "children"? As in actually doing it and not some fear-mongering right wing fever dream?
Keep in mind all the crazy things they think the Democrats support:
- furry children shitting in litter boxes
- immigrants eating cats and dogs
- abusing and eating children in pizza shops.
- harvesting babies for their brain chemicals
This one is just the same bullshit as all of those, but it's just *slightly* more plausible.
It goes along with the hysteria that tons of people are "secretly trans" such as the widespread conspiracy theory that Michelle Obama is secretly trans, and all the time regular cis girls are being accused of being secretly trans if they do too well at sports. This is a hysteria with similar structure to the Satanic Panic, it's not a reasoned debate based on the facts.
So that's why taking one of their (slightly less nutty) beliefs at face value is disingenuous. This has nothing to do with Democrat policies or what Democrats are doing, it's just some of the mud they flung but one that was a little bit less deranged than most of it. So you can't take that out of the context of *everything else* that the same people who push that are pushing.
The idea that the *existence of trans people* was really the issue is clearly nonsense when you look at the sheer scope of right-wing conspiracy theories and misinformation. Their whole tactic has been to flood the airwaves with utter bullshit that demonizes the other side, and this is just more of that, not some actual thing the Democrats did that the Republicans are responding to.
If trans people didn't exist they'd have made something else up and whined about that - maybe they'd have claimed the Democrats were deliberately giving children autism in the vaccines if they didn't have the trans thing to yell about. That's totally a thing modern Republicans would do - it's exactly what they DO do.
They've realized you can rile people up with a constant barrage of complete bullshit and that if you throw enough mud, eventually some of it will stick.
Really, they've taken taken lessons from thins like the Satanic Panic and they've reused them in the modern day, but with more focus and targeting. Basically if you can convince the masses that something nefarious is happening to the children and the other side is behind it, you can get the to lose their freaking minds and go along with virtually anything.

Well, quite a number of places, as it happens. And chemicals are given even more frequently.
The fact you can write stuff like this off as fear-mongering when it is widely documented (and has wide support in certain quarters) demonstrates how out of touch some sections of the left have become.
From (
https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-transyouth-data/) Reuters:
The Komodo analysis of insurance claims found 56 genital surgeries among patients ages 13 to 17 with a prior gender dysphoria diagnosis from 2019 to 2021. Among teens, “top surgery” to remove breasts is more common. In the three years ending in 2021, at least 776 mastectomies were performed in the United States on patients ages 13 to 17 with a gender dysphoria diagnosis, according to Komodo's data analysis of insurance claims. This tally does not include procedures that were paid for out of pocket.I'm a liberal, a proper liberal, which means that I believe competent adults ought to be able to do whatever they want so long as it doesn't harm anyone else. If an adult wants to take drugs or swim with sharks or climb K2 or irreversibly alter their body, then that's on them, and good luck to them. But it shouldn't in any way, shape or form be controversial to limit minors from doing these things.
As I say, learn the lessons, or keep losing to awful people like Trump.

Oh, I thought this was all about the day-to-day issues of ordinary US citizens, but apparently the most important thing for the masses is that a vanishingly small number of trans people might be transitioning incorrectly or start too early? And this impacts the lives of most people in the US how, exactly?

But like I said it's literally not the point. The same people talk about furry teens shitting in litter boxes and stuff. You can do everything right, have all the right policies, and they'll literally just make something else up to be upset about.
Or as in this case choose an extremely fringe issue, which has virtually no connection to politics and blow it out of proportion, make it a party political issue.
Here's a policy tracker about 26 states have introduced laws about this, but only during the most recent election cycle. This is 100% to politicize this issue, not because they care about the roughly 1 in a million people this affects.
(
https://www.kff.org/other/dashboard/gender-affirming-care-policy-tracker/)
Also, Texas saw a rise in maternal death rates of 56% from 2019-2022. They're perfectly happy with letting mothers die in large numbers and get angry if you try and bring that up. That's the "woke media" for you, caring about women dying and all that woke nonsense.
(
https://www.nbcnews.com/health/womens-health/texas-abortion-ban-deaths-pregnant-women-sb8-analysis-rcna171631)
So they're perfectly happy with thousands of women dying in childbirth but super-upset about 1 in a million people seeking and receiving medical treatment they don't approve of.
SD, there's no "being reasonable" with these people that's going to actually work.
What it would boil down to is introducing your own "Nazi-lite" laws against this stuff, to try and prevent the mega-Nazis from using the issue to get elected. But, that has NEVER WORKED at any point in history, and the reason is that they DON'T CARE about this specific issue, it's just a wedge issue they're using to gain power, so they'd come up with another one, even a made up one, if they didn't have this, and if you follow along, they'll keep one-upping you with increasingly Nazi-ish proposals.

Amazing stuff. Enjoy 8 years of President Vance.
Starker on 29/1/2025 at 16:12
I'm still waiting for an explanation how an extremely small number of trans people possibly starting their transitioning too early affects most people in the US?
It's the same issue with trans kids doing sports in school together with the "wrong gender" children. In some cases, the states that adopted laws against it had only one instance of this actually happening. They made an entire law just to ban one person.

You can vote against things to stop them before they affect your family personally. Your argument is like a conservative saying "If you, yourself are not planning to get an abortion this year, why do you even care that Roe v Wade was overturned? Didn't affect you personally."
(I don't care all that much about abortion but just an example).

As I said. Amazing. The lengths people will go to defend obvious malpractice simply because it (in their minds) doesn't affect enough people (despite the numbers growing exponentially - in itself a cause for alarm).
This is the thing I've noticed with America, and those places that take their cue from America. People have cookie cutter opinions. You have a side, and you dogmatically stick to everything that side is allowed to believe, with very little room for manoeuvre or nuance permitted. So if you're on the left, you have to believe that transing kids is okay, and untrammelled migration is okay, and that smashing the shit out of cities because of perceived social injustices is okay. Woe betide you if you stray outside those very narrow lines. Thank goodness things aren't as bad as that here.

Whatever you do, enjoy being gay, lesbian or bi or queer or whatever but the moment you go under surgery for sex change, you get sterilized, you will never bring children to life, don't throw away your power of reproduction.
