Trump can either be a clownish useless buffoon OR an existential fascist threat. You kind of have to pick one.

He can be both.

The make-up, hairdo, and speech are definitely on the clownish side. The erosion of norms and institutions, the blatantly open transactional corruption, and instigating a riot to interrupt the peaceful transfer of power are definitely on the dangerous side.

A US President can be a threat to global democracy simply through incompetent government. It doesn't require malice. Also, he lacks values to guide him and his personality disorder makes him easy to manipulate. Those are classic warning signs of an insider threat. I don't know who has his ear these days and who he might surround himself with if he gets back into office. Trump was different when he was listening to Jared, Ivanka, and John Kelly, compared to his crazy lawyers or Bannon.

Because people are just bored about the rebirth of fascism?
It's a long shot from "real" spiritualistic fascism :p
Trump is just a mafia-like boss playing the MAGA savior knowing lovers of Mussolini's
personal style will vote for him. That has nothing to do with fascism as an organicistic doctrine ("The State is the People"), just fascination for the (fake) warband leader.
Putin is implementing the italian ("proper") Fascism basics in Russia.

Absolutely YES

Arguably, this clownish, existential threat to global democracy, peace and the lives of millions, has not diminished...
I think he's diminished. He's not president anymore, most obviously.

Eh. He's a clowning useless buffoon who'd very much
like to be an existential fascist threat, and isn't shy about stating that in public. What's scary is how many supporters such a person gets, despite both his incompetence and brazen evil being just
so in everybody's face.

I am wondering why the longest thread on this forum has seemingly lost its steam.
Because Trump hasn't been president for more than two years.
Might as well ask why people aren't that sour about Dubya any more.
Starker on 26/5/2023 at 02:11
I mean, what has he been doing lately that's so worth talking about?

LOL, I'm just saying "real" fascism has a spiritualistic doctrine that you can simplify in: "to be a crusader as an instrument of the Nation Spirit" and so NEGATE the personal freedom (in dressing code too :D - the guy would be thrown away as a human garbage just for the tatoos)
'muricans like that nazi redneck can't structurally be "real" fascist, because Fascism is about "saint refusal" of the personal freedom and total devotion to the state.
You can just use as a fascism compass the actual state of Russia (and in fact listen to how much Putin talks about "spirituality" and not in the religious meaning)
