I've long given up on trying to explain to other Americans that "liberal" means center right limited government. The people subverting its meaning have been doing so since at least the 1980s, very intentionally for the very dodgy end of manhandling the Overton window rightwards. Well I think it's mostly, recently at least, trying to purge the right of neo-liberals by a stupid bait and switch and orphan them. The entire US political discourse is so confused that you just have to translate everything in and out of their lingo. But I guess every country is like that to some extent, just not as wildly as the US.
Remember the main ambition of Postwar liberalism and even 1970s neo-liberalism was to support capitalism, fair democratic elections, and civil and political rights in East Europe & developing countries in the Cold War & immediate post Cold War, so we know why that would be a big problem in the GOP today.

I am wondering why the longest thread on this forum has seemingly lost its steam. Arguably, this clownish, existential threat to global democracy, peace and the lives of millions, has not diminished so why has our appetite to engage it here declined?
Is it:
Because people are just bored about the rebirth of fascism?
Because we have fallen prey to the ultimate propaganda goal of Trumpism, the complete normalization of criminal officials and the Kleptocracy?
