I dont think you can point at speakerboxes like peterson et al as a cause, they are just leaning into what people want agree with. Something deeper, that started maybe longer ago. I cant speak for the US, but I am seeing some similarities in Australia which I honestly thought wouldnt happen, the right wing tunnel vision. I dunno, maybe its always been there but the last few years of events and politcal wangery has bought it to the surface.

Perhaps not, but they are like holding a microphone in front of amplifier speaker. It gets to be a louder and louder feedback loop. And social media algorithms don't help.
Try an experiment on TikTok or YouTube. Search for Rogan and Peterson. Watch a bunch of their rants all the way through. Next thing you know, it's endlessly being poured down your throat like a firehose.
People are stuck in their own algorithmic feedback, and they don't know it.
Their worst inclinations are then cemented in a reinforced concrete of confirmation bias, fed by a bunch of bastards who just want to keep people engaged for as long as possible for the 0.03¢ they get from each viewer, humanity be damned.

You know you could just not watch tiktok or youtube, certainly not search for those people you mentioned. Then guess what? You get to live your life unaffected like the majority of people that exist in the world.

Maybe the majority of the world, but not the majority of internet users. Social media viewing for internet users is 147 minutes a day average.

These days I'm watching a lot of videos on tensor calculus, dogfighting jets in DCS, and medieval Sufi theology. I think I'll be okay. Any tool can be helpful or harmful depending on what use you put it to.

Peterson was a lackluster professor of psychology when he discovered that lying about Canadian human rights legislation was an easier way to get attention and make money, than honest academics. A decade ago his criticism of public discourse wss that it lacked nuance - it was too black and white. Now he's stomping around with a can of tar in his left hand and a bucket of whitewash in his right. He knows that what he is doing now is dishonest and lazy. And then there's his distorted (selective?) understanding of knowledge about science beyond his own discipline.
He has his own chapel of scorn in my pantheon.

It's always amusing when Leftists are scared of the softest, most moderate, centrist, milquetoast "right-wingers." Next you'll be warning about the ultra-radical Ben Shapiro.
