I feel like the anti-Trump squad is what is keeping him relevant in world more than his own followers ... The constant high energy reactions from anti-Trumpers is his best advertisement because, like they say, there is no such thing as bad press.
I mean, I've been saying since summer 2016 that if the press would just stop talking about him he'd go away.

Trump may be gone but, at least from afar, it looks like the consolidation of an asinine alt-right and the increasing appeal of their rhetoric towards traditional conservatives are not going to stop even if the presses do.

If only he would go away. Unfortunately he is still campaigning as he did throughout his presidency. And he is planning another bid at the office. Only now we know that he will cheat with fake electors, the installation of "his" people in election offices, the changing of ballots, or another insurrection if need be. He has no rules for himself and no moral compass with which to gauge rules nor does her care about the damage to the institutions that have run the country for the past couple of centuries.
Whether you pay attention to a snake or not it will still bite you.

Unfortunately the only way for Trump to go away would be for his supporters to give up which isn't likely anytime soon. Also, a criminal conviction would likely end his campaign efforts but that is also unlikely to happen. The only thing that would help to shut him up would be for the Republican party to nominate someone else every four years and wait for him to grow too old to campaign.

Some psychologist somewhere wrote an article about Trump & his followers' profile as a gang leader and their followers, in the same vein as a cult leader or mafia boss, but she was talking about just the archetype. Any attacks on the leader are going to galvanize the followers to double-down on their loyalty and radicalize, because they have their identity wrapped up with him. If he isn't who we think he is, then who even are we?
But the important part was the radicalization can amp up right up until the person is convicted and jailed, and then all of the support evaporates instantly and totally. They hardly even remember the guy or themselves in that period, and if it comes up they'll change the subject.
It shows why prosecution is so important.
Speaking of which, by the way, this reminds me there's a book coming out where some lawyer claims Barr took an oversight position over the raid on Epstein's estate on Trump's orders to allegedly protect Trump's interest if anything compromising were found, as if he expected there might be something to be found. (Of course there was, or at least I feel justified in saying it's worth looking into for Bayesian reasons based on the data points we know leaning in that direction.) I can't find the link on it just now, and I think we already knew it; but I think it'd be easy to look up. There's such much shit piled up on this guy it's easy when looking at any one layer to forget how many more layers there are on other things.

If Trump is charged with anything it would have to be something pretty solid and pretty damming and not something Trumped up (pardon the pun) otherwise his hardcore followers might become much worse.

Better yet, let the Republican party keep nominating him every 4 years.

I prefer the back and forth changes between parties every so often as it tends to keep things from being too one sided forever. The back and forth between party in control helps keep things from moving too fast ... Slow and careful thought and consideration is how we keep the Constitution and the Bill of Rights in tact.

If the GOP wins this time there won't be a back and forth, though. Just the Dynasty of Emperor Donald.
If the Dems win it will take a generation of 'truth and reconciliation' before conservatives will be cohesive enough to be a single, functional party. IMO.

I doubt the Donald will ever come back even if he was nominated. But if did hold office again he wouldn't be crowned king because we still have Congress. If the house and senate were controlled by the GOP and Trump was elected again then we would have some serious problems. I am a strong supporter of the 1st and 2nd amendment, and all the other silly stuff in the Constitution, but I also like trees and functional schools and Trump as an overlord would go overboard and destroy everything in his wake.
