To get some context, I'm reading about how truth and reconciliation processes work, and I was thinking "oh there's no way that'd work in the United States". Then I had a moment of clarity - *it worked in Uganda*. Dang, are we really at the point where the people who need to chill out are more far gone than Uganda? At this point I feel like the people who we're trying to reach with the olive branch would "fake news" literally everything about the process.
EDIT: here's a CNN segment on the Texas / Holocaust teaching thing (5 min video):

First here's a normal stupidity story:
(
https://mashable.com/article/missouri-governor-mike-parson-reporter-html-hacking)
Short version is that a reporter found that user's social security numbers were exposed in the HTML of a Missouri Dept of Education website, and he reported that to the authorities, and now the governor wants him charged with being a hacker.
Second, here's the lightspeed stupidity story:
(
https://www.newsweek.com/gop-rep-tentacled-creatures-covid-vaccines-quits-panels-new-hampshire-1637280)
Quote:
GOP Rep. Who Shared Claims of Tentacled Creatures in COVID Vaccines Quits Panels
A New Hampshire Republican who disseminated a document claiming COVID-19 vaccines contained tentacled creatures that enter the human body has resigned from two committees of the state's legislature.
State Representative Ken Wyler has stepped down as a member of the House Finance and Joint Legislative Fiscal committees following criticism from Republican Governor Chris Sununu and Democrats.
Wyler said he had not read the entire 52-page document, which he sent to colleagues on the fiscal via email, and acknowledged that it contained "conspiracy material."
The document, entitled The Vaccine Death Report, contained a number of false and conspiratorial claims, including that governments want to "steal our very own thoughts and feelings through 5G" and references about the Roman Catholic Church's supposedly evil "Black Pope" and "Grey Pope."
Perhaps the most outrageous section was entitled "CREATURE WITH TENTACLES."
The document claims that scientist describes seeing "a living organism with tentacles. This creature moves around, lifts itself up, and even seems to be self-aware" when the vaccine is viewed under the microscope.
"The sight of this and the thought that these unknown, octopus-like creatures are being injected into millions of children worldwide, caused [the doctor] to weep," the document said.
there's more and more chatter about the tentacle monsters now in QAnon circles, which is what I was googling when i came across that story.

After a (misinterpreted) "Orwell got it right!!1111" we'll have "Lovecraft got it right!!1111"

I suppose it's at least good that the nuts are having some fun with their theories. A bit of sci-fi is a refreshing new direction.

Quick aside, I actually taught Transitional Justice in my class today.
Japan's Transitional Justice process was kind of trash too. They never really did come to the same acknowledgement or ownership of their war crimes that Germany did. (And Germany's process was kind of trash too, ftm.) And while they've gotten on board with democracy in name, it's still been basically 1-party rule since the 1940s to this day. A lot of it you can pin on the American occupying forces not letting the location population be part of its own process, and they wanted to get the whole thing over as quickly and painlessly as possible because we had to become fast friends to fight the commies, and when you're doing TJ, you're supposed to be thinking about democratizing & reconciliation over the long term. Two of my favorite case studies are Colombia and Cambodia, both really good examples of how much politics can muck the process up, even if you had good intentions all around (which you don't have that either).
The topic itself is really interesting! I'm kind of fortunate to do research & teach in this field. All of our cases are always high drama & politics. I couldn't imagine teaching bankruptcy or M&A law. I'd probably fall asleep in my own class.

Oh God, i've just found the entrance to this specific rabbithole.
not only do they have documents, they have fake news type TV channels where fake doctors are coming on talking about the tentacle creatures. And it's suddenly less fun when it's outside of ranting on blogs. Remember that guy who smashed 500 vaccine vials? a fan of these people.
The biggest upside is that I can actually present a news clip where the host interviews a doctor about the tentacle creatures:
Dr Carrie Madej interview (

Dr Carrie Madej site: (
https://carriemadej.com/)
Quote:
Dr. Madej goes on to describe The Moderna vial sample as something like a “super conducting computing system” and metallic fragments “that I am not used to seeing”. She later refers to it as “an injectable computing system”
Looking here up there's a Vice article about her. Surprisingly, she's an actual doctor: orthopedics:

Her claims are that the vaccine has mRNA that reprograms your DNA, they also have nano-computers to control your mind. and tentacle creatures to ... idk.
Dr. Franc Zalewski presentation (

Quote:
Dr. Franc Zalewski claims to have found an aluminum/carbon based life-form in the COVID vaccines.
Apparently Dr. Franc Zalewski is actually one of those "ancient aliens" guys. His doctorate is actually in ancient architecture, not a science field.
People are apparently combining the theories now, so you got multiple *types* of tiny octopuses in the same vaccines, both the metallic aluminium base ones and non-metallic organic ones, along with the mRNA DNA hacking, nano-chips and nano-bots that reprogram your brain.
There's also another line of reasoning tangential to this, it's a theory that since the mRNA reprograms you genetically, then your DNA is now patented by a corporation, and they hold that the Supreme Court has already ruled that people who got the vaccine are no longer classed as humans.

I'm familiar with Ken Weyler because he's been in the State Legislature for a long time and has a history of making irrational or profoundly ignorant statements. A couple weeks before he emailed around
The Vaccine Death Report, he got into an argument in a committee meeting with the state's HHS head where he went off on a more general conspiracy rant. It got him a lot of bad publicity, so it was a little surprising to see him double down with the email.
This little state has 400 House members and some of the more populous districts select up to 10 or 11 members, so we're used to seeing some kooks sneak in on the down ballot. It happens when the Democrats win too. But people like Weyler used to be kept on the sidelines where he wouldn't embarrass the party. That's changed. The crazy wing of the party is where all the energy and motivation is now, so even if they don't represent a majority of Republicans they are driving the party.
We have a Republican governor here, and thankfully he is rational. But he's having a hard time holding back the crazy wing. They whipped themselves into a fervor and have gotten powerful enough that the governor has to sometimes throw them a bone or send a conservative virtual signal to prevent a revolt.

Thanks, that's interesting context on New Hampshire. I've been reading recently that it's an odd enclave of Republicanism especially for the Northeast.
other news is that Trump is attacking Colin Powell now because he's upset that there has been an outpouring of tributes for the man following his death from Covid complications. CNN: (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90LdVlPN8Ig)
The real story is that narcissist Trump can't handle that someone else is getting a moment in the spotlight, even if it's because that person is dead. Trump then made sure that the statement pivoted around to talking about himself, and ended with a link to donate money to Trump!
That's also a realization I came to surrounding Dr Fauci. Trump's rambling press conferences were deliberate - to UPSTAGE Fauci. He couldn't stand anyone else being the man of the moment. So what is otherwise incomprehensible behavior suddenly makes sense.
Trump just *straight up* has debilitating Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Someone else commented that if Trump had just backed up Fauci, and said "Trust The Plan" then every Q believer would have been out there pushing pandemic prevention, and Trump would have *sailed home* to win the election. But Trump's mental illness didn't allow him to do that. In fact, I think his broader thing was he was upset at being upstaged - BY COVID.
And even now, the whole election fraud thing is much more likely to torpedo a Trump comeback as it is to help. trump can't let any grievance go. that's who he is.
