Oh, I was asleep when the big news came down. Congratulations, uh, everybody.
It was too close for comfort, but at least we can get back to a little normalcy.
Although you wouldn't know it looking at the right-wing social media sphere, or some of them. Most of the posts I've seen are breaking into two camps. Most of them are some form of "No matter what happens, Christ is King" or God is still in control, or find peace in Jesus, etc., especially most women or people that don't like confrontation. Okay, I can at least sympathize with that sentiment. You re-ground yourself in the values you think are important that are bigger than the here and now. (I don't believe those values have any connection to Trump, so I'm distrusting what they think those values mean, but better to internalize them where they're supposed to be.)
Then for the confrontational men it's been something like great, now we have actual communism to look forward to, society is about to be completely destroyed (and they'll make some long list with North Korea, gas prices, etc.) My children & grandchildren are going to suffer & I cry for them. Or something about how Biden is sure to get impeached because of Ukraine, or should we use the 25th Amendment, basically everything that used to be said about Trump, just switching out the name. I think this is deluded, but exactly because it's detached from reality I don't worry too much, at least in the short term. It's like all of those QAnoners who were waiting for the Storm of mass Dem prosecutions to come down any day now, and then they just didn't because the claims just don't match reality. Reality moves on and they either have their bubble popped or try to live outside it. I think that'll happen here too. I expect right wing media will try to maintain this bubble and Murdoch will fight to be its voice. Anyway, that's a discussion for another day.

I look forward to living in a world where I don't have to give a fuck about what's going on in DC anymore.
At the end of it all, I think this is the sentiment that won the day. Nothing is more American than annoyance with national politics, and doing the least we have to to get whatever the job is done. You can work Americans up, as we've seen, and they can get off on that serotonin hit from "owning libs" for a while, but I think it can only go so far. I hope our ultimate exasperation is the sentiment we hold on to, since it moderates politics better than anything. It's not healthy IMO for the masses to start thinking in terms of crusades.
One of the memes that most spoke to me was an image of Trump and the three important kids and something like: Imagine not having to think about these assholes for a day. Now that's getting closer to the American dream! We have high school football games, PTA meetings, bible studies, and golf scores to get back to (or whatever it is people do in their own areas)...
----
Edit: I'm also noting the fact that the GOP kept the House & Senate is a moderating force. There's some expectation that Biden won't be able to do very much because of it, which helps them ease off on their resistance.
That and the count is the count. If a court actually took up a claim on the vote counts, the masses could rally around that, but no court is taking up any claims because they're not serious, which is to say there's no evidence anyone can produce to hook a claim on to, so there's nothing official to rally around (Trump's tweets don't count in this context). There's just the bare, unopposed numbers. I think that's having a major effect too.

I prefer vaporwave, but I like synthwave, yes.
I'd never heard of vaporwave. Wiki gives me no artists, but the description is interesting. I'm a big (BIG) fan of synthwave. I'm mostly into Gunship but I also like some Carpenter Brut, Timecop1983, Mitch Murder, FM84, Miami Nights 84, Lazerhawk, etc. This is currently my jam and has been since, err, I heard Gunship by Gunship. I prefer no vocals, unless it's Gunship (love both albums, have every t-shirt, etc, etc) but I did recently hear Eternal by DJ Ten & By An Ion (both of whom I don't know at all) and yes, that's the spot.
Rec some vaporwave?

Bannon lost a lawyer after suggesting Fauci and the FBI director should lose their heads:

Stephen K. Bannon, the former adviser to President Trump who is known for his right-wing extremism, suggested on Thursday that the F.B.I. director and Dr. Anthony S. Fauci should be beheaded, and Twitter responded by banning one of his accounts.
On Friday, a prominent lawyer who was defending Mr. Bannon against fraud charges in federal court in Manhattan abruptly moved to drop him as a client, one person familiar with the matter said.
“Mr. Bannon is in the process of retaining new counsel,” the lawyer, William A. Burck, said in a brief letter to the court, giving no explanation.

Biden just gave his victory speech, a coherent speech by an American president (elect). It's been a while.
Edit: This is how you really know you've overstayed your welcome, lol.

Either we have the trials to look forward to, or he starts his own tv network, or some mass cult movement... I expect there will be more dumpage to come.

And less than two hours long as well!

Maybe we should change the name of the thread. Renz? Pwz?
Maybe a Transition Thread to get us to January 19th.

Is this the first time a presidential candidate has refused to concede?
PigLick on 8/11/2020 at 02:40
if any indication of his personality is correct, hopefully he will just crumble and take the "well I didnt want this stupid job anyway suckers" line.

There were some other crazy moments in history. Maybe not like this though, where a person didn't concede even after they exhausted all their legal channels. (Courts are still deciding whether to take Trump's legal claims, so I think technically he hasn't exhausted them yet.)
In 2000, Florida was still counting ballots and Gore was arguably making slow progress in a re-count, so he didn't concede, but there was this problem with the method, and IIRC Gore wanted a recount (IIRC it was a punchcard system but the punches didn't always go all the way through, so the machine didn't count them, and older Dem voters were more likely to have that 'hanging chads' problem, which Gore I guess wanted counted by hand, not machine), but it was really slow and there was a problem of interpretation (what if it was just a depression and it didn't cut the paper?, etc.), and the Reps brought a legal challenge to stop the re-counting, and it went eventually up to the Supreme Court, where they stopped it, effectively declaring Bush president as the lead at that time. And then Gore conceded. Trump was kind of betting on that same route, but among other things, it won't work for him because Biden's already passed him (which wasn't the case in 2000).
Edit: I think Trump just assumes the Bush team "made up some bullshit problem to stop the voting going against him". I mean first of all it's clear he didn't understand the situation since it was Gore that was contesting the original vote, and the Bush team just stopped the contestation (i.e., respecting the original vote, which isn't the result Trump actually wants) ... because Trump can't remember facts & they don't matter. But Trump just says the word "fraud" or "fake ballots" and assumes a legal claim will just, poof, happen because he thinks the whole thing is bullshit and the judges he did favors for should be loyal to him like they were to Bush (in his mind), but he's an idiot, and that's not how it works.
In 1824, no one got a full majority of electoral votes so it went to the House of Representatives, and the runner up in electoral votes (John Q. Adams) actually won that vote and became President.
Trump already gave some quote that he's thinking about leaving the US if he loses (to Scotland where he claims they love him, lol). He has to think about legal claims against him that go live as soon as he's out of office, once popular support for his putsch evaporates, so I think that will be a factor. Some people are saying he may resign right at the end so Pence can take over as President and pardon Trump, a la Nixon & Ford. That would suck, but I think it's a real possibility.

I think this is the image of the moment, and this is my main sentiment about Biden's win:

I wonder if we'll ever see Vae post here again.
Haha, that’s wishful thinking! You think he has any friends or anything better to do?
