IIRC the rationale was Sunday was for church, something something farmers going to markets, anyway it was placed on Tuesdays...
Like many other things about the whole damn process, pretty obsolete stuff. The US are really overdue for an overhaul of their election process.
Just to be clear, I think France needs a new constitution, and Spain where I live possibly could use a refresh as well, so I'm also critical about how we do things here.

Because you go to church on Sunday.

Here in Ireland, I've never even seen a queue of more than 2-3 people waiting to vote, so the idea of ten-hour queues just boggles my mind.
But we seem to have quite a lot of polling stations per population. I'm having trouble finding exact numbers, but some quick maths suggests it could be as many as one per 5,300 citizens.

The way it's done in America is bonkers of course.

The first thing you have to know about the US is that whatever system we use, it's up to the state governments to put it together.
Actually a lot of our political dynamics are very carefully manufactured by state governments, which tend to be more conservative as you get more local, trying to control national elections. I'm pretty sure every little detail is micromanaged for political reasons. You'll read about how meticulously they arrange the names on a ballot (to maximize the chance of accidentally checking the right wrong box), or the specific wording of a proposal, and all the details about registering and this and that. Like I understand that it's Tuesday because that privileges (right-leaning) elderly voters that aren't working. It's supposed to be effectively a national holiday you can't be required to work though anyway.

That reminds me of the old joke.
Un homme entre dans une librairie et demande une copie de la constitution française.
Puis le libraire dit: «Je suis désolé, mais nous ne vendons pas de périodiques ici».

He got something like a million more votes than the last time. If he had got the same amount, he would have lost. Apparently Cubans especially really resonated with the message of Biden being a radical communist.
Cubans traditionally vote Republican though. That's normal.
Also, a lot of Latino men support Trump. The media seems to naively assume that since Trump is anti-immigration and most immigrants are Latino, that the Latino vote will go against Trump. It's a bad assumption for multiple reasons that I don't have time to type up before work. But I'll quickly say that his Christian conservative Court appointments are popular. Also, his law & order message resonates with a lot of Latino men in the South and West. Also, his opposition to COVID restrictions.

A lot in my hometown circle are recycling the "Do you really want a Communist takeover with Biden?" line. I would ask them do they really think it's going to be any worse than Clinton or Obama, but then I expect they thought Clinton & Obama's terms were either communist takeovers or corrupt to their core too, so there's no use in it.
They all believe in the Great Reset conspiracy. That's what's different from Clinton and Obama.

i read once that the ballot infrastructure itself is done with private tenders, which is how they can limit the amount of ballot machines and place them in shit locations, because money. Is this correct?
