All it's gonna take is 270 electoral votes to say in November that the next time around with a novel coronavirus, we'd like an early heads up so we can skip the part about being in spring break on a beach in Florida before we find out we should be home alone getting groceries delivered by drones aiming the packages at the back porch from a safe social distance.
And I think we can manage to round those votes up when the time comes.

This disaster has been pretty bad for him. It's weakened his one real advantage, the economy, and he's provided plenty of ammo to use against him come November.
If this gets worse, and our healthcare industry breaks under the strain, expect to see tons of campaign ads that are nothing but him talking about how the concerns aired were just a Democrat hoax to hurt him during the election, and how those first 15 cases would just magically go away.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a few that show clips of our various presidents throughout the years taking the responsibility for anything that could go wrong, immediately followed by Trump saying he takes no responsibility whatsoever.

Obviously the most responsible thing for the media to do would be to just mention it as an aside. Like maybe once a week or so. Nothing that would cause any undue panic.
Everyone will eventually find out for themselves for themselves anyway, when tens of thousands of grandmas across the country start dropping dead over what seemed like a regular old case of the flu. Then people can panic, but it's okay, because it's a panic that was earned honestly.
There's Always A Tweet.

It's exactly what happened in 2016. Bernie had a huge, surprising surge at the start, which petered out fairly quickly through the rest of the primary season.
A potential Sanders presidency would've been, at the very least, entertaining as hell, but alas, I don't think it's meant to be. He can't blame the DNC this time either, since the superdelegate setup has been tweaked to be a bit more fair to the unfavored candidates, and the most they did to stand in his way was occasionally bitch about his run on the news.
He's better as a background agitator anyway.

I think this was different from 2016 overall, and not just because of the sheer number of semi-competitive candidates. For a brief, shining moment, Biden wasn't the frontrunner, nor even in second place, and media was starting to talk like he wasn't even competitive. Nothing like that happened to Clinton in 2016.
