How do you finish the missle silo base without killing or knock out Howard Strong "without" any weapons? I know Jack won't lend his helicopter unless you make sure no one interfere the launch to Area 51.
Ok, this thing will propably be arguable also. Of course, that guy had to be killed, becouse there seems to be no way to get him unconscious without using weapons. So I had to bring (
http://personal.inet.fi/koti/raekkeri/muut/saelae/dxpic2.JPG) a barrel and use it to kill Howard (and I see now it would've also been the same than using a weapon (but a real weapon?)). BUT this Howard guy decided to throw me with a LAM, and all I could do was just throw the barrel down and run. When LAM exploded with the barrel, it was Howard Strong's end. But hey, I didn't kill him, did I, huh? :B
Anyway, that's the way I passed through that area, don't know how others did it. And I think you can no more say I finished the game without using weapons.
Skilless, I don't have much to add to what you said. Except that I didn't pick up a weapon (pistol and stuff) to shoot a shot.

You could also have fallen from high above and landed on his head. That surely can't be using a weapon. :)
the closest I have done is never to cause any damage or fight anyone (although I did have to get in a few cmobat situations, I merely ran away). at the Vandenburg outdoors bit, for example, you can get past patrolling guards by going directly behind them, then by going on their right-hand sides at the right time (when they turn around they turn to the left). The alternative is to make excessive use of cloak, which I didn't like doing.
All I carried with me all game was a knife, and a few LAMs which I only used where it seemed fairly necessary. I never used either of them on people, except on Anna, to make her open a door for me (although I didn't kill her: the only person I actually killed in the game was Howard Strong).

I bet that there is a way to make Anna kill herself. Or, perhaps placing a LAM in a convienent spot wouldn't qualify as "killing" since she walked up to it, and the locational sensory activated.........
I wonder if it would be possible to block Anna in with boxes/crates at Lebedev and prevent her from showing up for the rest of the game? Or, would she just spawn at the subway/MJ12 retention? Interesting to find out if you can get past her and Gunther by trapping them somehow....

Yes, there is a way: (

I just happened to drop some of my explosive barrels, and Anna came and destroyed herself (you know, tried to shoot Lebedev, but hit the barrels, and...) ...where is this world going?
But...

...becouse Anna killed herself, I didn't see what would've happened. But it's propably worth to try, I guess.

Eh, won't this method kill Lebedev as well? Are those barrels "flammable" or "explosive?"
ferret on 8/11/2002 at 23:36
Yeah, it's not too difficult to get her to kill herself, but my particular play style that time demanded that I didn't even allow that. If anyone happened to kill themselves (even without my intervention, or careful placing of barrels), and I think I can save them, I reloaded.
dormcat on 13/11/2002 at 04:07
Hmm, I remembered that explosive barrels can blow out wooden walls (door-less) in Warehouse District (near LAMs and security detector) and Missile Silo (sheds with MJ12 troops) maps. Do explosive barrels have same effect on all maps? I'd like to utilize them to full extent....;)
Hope I can bring down a water tower with explosives and watch bad guys falling down in DX2. :ebil:

If the barrels are placed around the corner, then they won't harm Lebedev. If you want to play where you don't attack anyone, just fire a shot *near* Anna, and she would start firing back, hitting the barrels and thereby destroying herself. I've accidently allowed the NSF in the first mission to destroy themselves (there are SO MANY TNT crates around!), by running away and accidently putting a TNT crate between me and them......this seems like a way around the "no weapons" or "no attacking" methodology...making the "enemy" kill themselves.
I think that the hardest way to complete this game would be to have all of the main NPCs and most of the rest of your enemies, kill themselves.......muhahahahahaha, the gauntlet has been thrown down!

Raekkeri, I think you're justified in killing those few people who you just cannot progress past without doing away with them. Well done, I've been hanging out to hear if you finished the game without using the weapon objects - I think the TNT is excusable.
ferret on 14/11/2002 at 14:47
Skilless: can you give them all pepper spray guns that fire TNT crates at the beginning? :)
