And now he knows...the Rest of the Story... - by jtr7

He certainly had a unique cadence to his reading. I was often puzzled at what exactly he was trying to emphasize in his stories. They were entertaining though. I recall one where he was telling of the discovery of floride in water and realized at the end of it that the community with naturally floridated water was about five miles from me and we shared the same aquifer. They actually have to filter it OUT of our water.
This is apropo of naught but, after having made a harrowing journey over ice covered roads from Peoria Illinois to Mississippi that were as if someone had plowed the pavement and covered it in oil amongst bumber to bumper big rigs, I made it home to find a message on the answering machine from my wifes uncle whom we had just buried. "Thanks Tocky. Bye." No problem Jim. I have no idea what he was thanking me for if not for taking his sister and niece to his funeral. Strange. Strange to post it here too I guess. But he was a good man and I have no answering machine to tell him he is most welcome.

I used to listen to Paul Harvey whenever I could. I always enjoyed his stories. R.I.P.

I used to listen to him in mom's car on the way to school growing up. Didn't always agree with his right leaning views, but he was certainly a hero to my parents and a fixture in my childhood. Sad to see him go. I think his son is still doing his radio show.

Same here ... although I usually found him charmingly quaint. Also out of touch with reality, but sometimes it's nice to have a familiar voice around with their familiar opinions, almost reassuring, like home is still there backwards bits and all, but also the homely bits and the good stories.
I can definitely say I'd take a Paul Harvey over a Rush Limbaugh any day.

No kidding. I'm just wondering who will be given credit now for all the "I'm an American" e-mails that float around espousing pity right-wing/racist/imperialist tirades - his name is typically (and mistakenly) attached to those along with Andy Rooney.
