I was sure I'd edited before you'd responded. :(
I'd hoped to catch it, but I got snagged by someone at work before I realised the error of my ways. My only response is that I have a head cold and hence, my mind is not working very well. Sorry.

Rome had enormous production expenses, due to the fact that most of it was filmed on location in the foothills of Italy
yeah, but it was also co-produced with the BBC (iirc) so HBO's stake in it is even less than Carnivale's.
What RBJ said about Carnivale. There's still a LOT of places the series could have gone, but it does kind of sort of end well where it did in Season 2. And HBO is going to be releasing a full series box set, but god only knows how much they'll be charging for that. (Amazon sez: 139.99. ouch.)
Lost stuff: It was getting to the point where I could see that maybe in S3 that I would watch less regularly and just follow on-line discussions, but the close to Season 2 has decided me for a regular watcher for at least another season. Since the writers have said that they only really want to do 5 seasons, I imagine that Season 3 will start to see a lot more exploration of Island wackiness and less reinforcement of the firmly established character motivations.

Looked up this Carnivale thing. Sounds cool. Sigh. Just not enough time to watch all these shows. Maybe I can convince my dad to give this a try once we finish BSG season 2.

I think Carnivale is the second best series I've watched (only surpassed in its greatness by von Trier's Riget ;) Ernst-Hugo!!) And yeah, while you're left wanting more at the end of season two, it does end on a high note.
Weren't there some rumors a while back about movies being made? Not sure whatever happened to that.

I don't know anything about Deadwood, but I just wanted to say that yeah, Carnivale was great :thumb:

So how about it: is Lost still worthwhile? Has it managed to hold your interest? Have any of you given up in disgust? Do you still watch it despite the fact that it's like dating a hot woman who promises sex but then thinks a flash of cleavage is enough to tide you over? Or has it finally made good with a hummer at least?
How about: "It's still fumbling around with our zipper, and we're not yet sure if we're getting the hummer or a deeply unsatisfying handjob, but most of us have already figured out that we ain't getting laid. In any case, we wish we hadn't had those last two shots of tequila."

Okay, I am out of loop because I never even sat down and fully enjoyed season 2 of Deadwood, much less season 3 which ends tonight - but I seek to remedy that soon and in the meantime, here is a gem that I discovered:

... or should I say:
To my regret, I must deign to inform you that I have fucking failed in my duty as a television viewer since, through circumstances unbecoming to myself, I have been unable to procure the ever-fucking-precious time with which to observe the episodes that I procured at great expense to my person. Hence it must go forth without saying that I am indeed a worthless cocksucker.
