Al Gore is a politician, and likes attention. You'd be better off reading around to get a more sensible view if you aren't too familiar all this global warming fun.
Gore has been pushing environmental issues for over 10 years now. While he's no expert, and shouldn't be treated as one, he also shouldn't be treated as merely a political opportunist jumping on the liberal cause du jour.

Why do people keep using Katrina as an example? An example of what? I've lived through 2 or 3 hurricanes stronger than Katrina. I dont see it as any proof of global warming, it just so happened to sneak past us and hit a place not prepared for CAT-4 or CAT-5 hurricanes.
If anything, they might want to mention the fact that there were about 10 hurricanes reported forming last hurricane season.
Anyways, *endrandomrant*

To expound on Alchemist's point:
There were actually 27 named storms last year, 6 more than the previous record in 1933, with half of those becoming hurricanes (7 of which were major). Among those was Katrina, probably the largest hurricane the US has ever seen, and certainly so for the Gulf where it was also the most powerful. Not only did we have more storms than names for those storms last year, we also had storms past the June to November regular storm season (actually spilling into 2006).

We did our part to change the environment, but there is also something called "Milankovitch cycles" some people might find interesting.

Or anywhere else. :)
No, really. There are scientific studies which suggest that increased amount of hurricanes is related to global warming. I can find references to some on demand.

To be honest, I don't know much (nor care to know much) about it. But I can say with certainty that for every study one side finds "proving" their argument, the other side will find one for theirs as well. That's just the way it goes with this. Maybe at some point the preponderance of evidence will shift to one side or the other, but honestly there aren't enough rat's arses in my collection for me to start handing them out.
