Is there, or will there ever be, a way to configure the board's Ignore function so that it doesn't generate the big "so-and-so ignored user has posted something" messages? That completely defeats the purpose. If I put Bluegr^H^H^H^H^H^H some moronic assclown on my ignore list, it's because I do not want to know when they've posted. Ever.

Don't be such a crybaby.
You big crybaby.

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to.
Anyway, I'd think you'd be happy to help me curb my unfortunate troll-feeding habit.

Surely just blocking out those posts altogether would result in confusing threads. You'd get many one sided conversations etc. Sure, you'd get that even with blocked posts, but at least you know who's talking with who.
What about threads started by blocked users? If you can't see the first post, then you might as well block out the whole thread while you're at it.

You should be able to write a greasemonkey script for firefox that would look for reply blocks that have been processed by the in-built ignore function, and remove them altogether (just set the enclosing block's style to "display: none").
I've not written anything for greasemonkey, but it seems like it should be a reasonably straightforward thing to do.

The sort of people who've finally driven me to contemplating using the Ignore function don't generally participate in conversations. They're more of the drive-by type posters.

So I'm curious - who would be going on this illustrious block-list?
David on 30/8/2005 at 07:05
Not me, that's for sure! :D
We won't be changing the ignore function, it isn't, and will never be, perfect as it lacks several functions, including blocking quotes of those on the ignore list.
Personally I'd just learn some self-restraint if I were you, rather than relying on forum software to curb your ridiculous posting habits.

Blocking quotes of the ignored would make threads even more confusing though. That'd be worse, not better.
Also, I vote for the self-restraint angle.

Yes, I didn't explain it very well, but we won't be changing it because I think it works best the way it is.
