How the hell are System Shock 2 and Amnesia even remotely similar?
Both are horror-survival games in the first person perspective with interactive environments and a big focus on the audio-department.
What sets them apart is that ss2 is scifi and has rpg/fps elements.
Still, more in common than not.

It's all atmosphere, that's how. So many gamers have no sense of atmosphere because they play with the sound off, really low, on terrible 2.1 speakers, or have a horrible monitor. Play the game the way it was meant to be played please.

Now that i see many have replied to the thread and some even got the game i would like to hear what you think about it ?
I know that this is not sci fi like system shock, and that system shock is more advanced in its rpg elements, but despite that, this game still reminds me of my first playthrough of system shock ..

Just Wow.
Played the demo and bought it immediately.
This is more like System Shock 2 than Bioshock is like it.
Because: No next gen monster closets, immortality, and hordes of monsters running at you. One monster is enough.... :-)
I like how you interact with the environment in Amnesia, feels like your hands are really in there with gravity etc. Also like the darkness is driving you insane and you have to stock up matchboxes is really well thought about.
The "audio logs" and "ghost (reverse audio overlayed) audio scenes" really keeps you intrested in the story
Thanks for the tip!

I've since i played system shock 2 the first time been searching for something similar to it. Something that would bring me back the feeling i had when i played system shock 2 the first time.
Unfortunantly that has never really happened. The closest i had been was when i played Dead Space, which was pretty close (and then the 50 other times i've played ss2 afterwards hah)
Untill the other day when i decided to try Amnesia - The Dark Descent on steam.
That game.. Is terrifying!
Allthough the game is set somewhere in the middle of 1800, it still is the closest i have ever been to get back the feeling like the one i got when i played SS2 the first time around 10 years ago.
And the story behind the studio is actually also reminding me of LGS. This game was rushed out at its last stages, because of some budget thingy. Ending is better than ss2's though :p And sales of the game was quite dissapointing in the begining but as it seems now they have sold more than expected, which is diffenantly deserved!
You should really try it.. You can get the demo on steam for free ofc.. It really surpriced me!
I found dead space to be like the experience of SS2 as well, except the voice acting/ back story wasn't nearly as compelling. But it also felt like doom3 for the most part. Think about the story: a hub researching mars, finds an artifact, the artifact is demonic and causes growths of some biological creature into the colony, mutating people, and its just you running through stage after stage, never really meeting any other characters except here and there.
The difference like in SS2 you were kind of running for your life most of the time. No ammo, poorly equipped. And it was challenging, and fun!

Last time I checked, SS2 was a thriller*, didn't have much in ways of interactive environments and as for bog focus on the audio-department... I don't even know what is that supposed to mean.
* -because it was released before the whole craze of calling every game with scaries a "survival horror"

My guess is that it's just another way of saying that SS2's audio and ambient effects are some of the best ever in a game. Even by current standards it is impeccable.
