Ok, now I get it.
No, you don't. And, based on this polemic, I feel fairly confident in asserting that your reading comprehension is so incredibly poor and biased that you never actually will.

You think that everyone who voted for Bush is a radical right wing, conspiracy nut, christian type...
...Or merely poorly informed, which is very easy to be in our current environment.
Quote Posted by fett
...based of course, on the idiots you know who voted for him.
Many of the people I know who voted for him are very intelligent. Nonetheless, their reasons are deeply flawed. Nonetheless, the polling data suggests that incredible levels of ignorance are very widespread.

You actually believe that 51% of the population believe *literally* in Genesis 1 or that 9/11 was Hussein's fault?
The empirical evidence at the time supports that assertion, yes:

Funny - I live in bumfuck Arkansas where I can't fart without hitting a church and I don't know A SINGLE PERSON who voted for Bush based on either example you've given.
Weren't you just criticizing me for using anecdotal evidence?
Quote Posted by fett
...you will find that some conservatives actually do think through why they vote and believe the way that they do, beyond 'LOLterrism'.
Yes, but were they informed and did they vote for Bush? Perhaps, but I suspect such numbers are at best insignificant. (For the record, I would classify a vote for Bush based on opposition to homosexuality as being fundamentally religious in nature.)
Quote Posted by fett
That's THE ONLY point I'm trying to make because I resent the implication that half of the U.S. voting population are so stupid as to believe the earth is flat or that there really are WMD's in Iraq (covered up by the media of course ).
Go find some sand and stick your head in it. We Americans have an
immense problem with ignorance and misinformation - willful and otherwise - and denying that that problem exists is frankly just another part of the same problem.

Is it such a difficult concept that people in general, and Americans specifically, are a little more complex than that when it comes to their beliefs about leaders, war, and national security?
Complex? Is THAT what your issue is? You don't like complexity boiled down to its root? Each individual's attitude towards religion is typically extremely complex, but that complexity doesn't make it any less stupid, zealous, or ignorant, insofar as such terms apply.
