Yes, but were they informed and did they vote for Bush? Perhaps, but I suspect such numbers are at best insignificant. (For the record, I would classify a vote for Bush based on opposition to homosexuality as being fundamentally religious in nature.)

Complex? Is THAT what your issue is? You don't like complexity boiled down to its root? Each individual's attitude towards religion is typically extremely complex, but that complexity doesn't make it any less stupid, zealous, or ignorant, insofar as such terms apply.
