American Idol vs. the Olympics - by fett

Am I the only one irritated that the media in general keeps going on about how the ratings for the Olympics suck compared to Survivor, Idol, etc? Is there some ethical rule that we should give a flying fuck about who can swim farther, jump higher, or skate better than the guy from the other country? AMERICA IS TEH BEST B/C OUR GUY CAN SKI DOWN THE HILL FASTER THAN UR GUY!!! HA AH ! NORTH KOREA SUXORS!
If I want to watch sports, I'll turn to fucking ESPN 1, 2, 3, or 17. In the meantime I wish they would shut the hell up about how I'd rather watch anything (and by anything I mean even King of Queens reruns on UPN) than sports. I just don't care - nothing against those who do.
This follows in the wake of Lost being pre-empted in my area for women's hockey ball/golf/tennis/bullshit championship for almost a month. Keep the shit on cable sports channels. I wouldn't expect anyone to give up Grey's Anatomy or [insert favorite show here] to watch 4 weeks of Behind the Music. Don't fuckin' move my shows so you can broadcast people throwing balls around or whatever the hell it is. But I digress.
As for the Olymics, hurrah hurrah, great fun for all, lasting tradition, blah blah blah. Nothing against them, but what is all this shame being metted out by the news sources because we collectively just don't care?

maybe they just sold a shitload of advertising space and are a bit pissed off.

Isn't it just a lament about how trash tv gets the highest ratings? Lowest common denominator and all that?

I hate when the 4 network* of channels starts broadcasting twenty-fucking-four hours a day of Big Brother. My lifes better than putting a comepletely stereotypical mix of gender / sexuality / blondes / whatever.
*S4C, channel 4, E4....

You're pretty cranky for someone who gets all the best parking spots.

Then why is your life not televised?
Obviously only the most interesting and relevant things are ever put on TV.
Obviously. What other explanation is there for TV being the best thing ever?

Think the two might be related? I do feel like shit today.
Before I was handicapped, I'd catch handicapped people parking in normal spots and beat the hell out of 'em. It all comes out in the wash.

Sorry for your frustration fett. I may in the minority but I love to watch the Olympics AND reality TV.
My family always made a point to watch the games when I was growing up and I have continued to watch them when they come on. What has been interesting for me is to see the Olympics televised from a whole different perspective because now the focus here is who made it into the top spots and where the Brits finished, not where the USA finished. It's nice for a change and if I want to see how the USA is doing I can find it on the interactive section of my digital TV box.
I don't really care about the ratings between the games and the reality shows. American Idol is on here on Fridays then rerun on Sundays so I can keep up with it. I watch the X Factor and would like to see Pop Idol whenever that gets shown. Seeing Big Brother last summer became an addiction for me (though I didn't care for the celebrity version).
Hang in there fett. The Olympics will be gone by next week then maybe they will get back to your regular scheduled programs. :)

Sarcasm?
I'd rather watch what goes on in my life (through my eyes) than watch Reality TV is what I was trying to say. And no I don't mean watching reality TV through my eyes.
