Deep joy...
AMD’s DirectX 9 ATI Radeon graphics accelerators are not officially supported under Windows 7. But we can ATI Catalyst Windows Vista graphics driver under Windows 7, but be aware that none of the new Windows 7 graphics driver (WDDM 1.1) features are supported.
The list is quite long: 9500, 9550,9600,9700,9800,X300,X550,X600,X700, X800,X850,X1050,X1300,X1550,X1600,X1650,X1800,X1900,X1200,X1250,X2100,Xpress Series.
Most chipset IGPs won’t officially support Windows 7 which is kind of an issue. Nvidia's new Windows 7 driver supports cards all the way to Geforce 6 that is DirectX 9.

Wow that's rather crap. Does that mean directx 9 and below games aren't properly supported either?

Aren't most laptops sold with IGP? Won't this just alienate a large portion of their casual gaming customers?

That dosent appear to be the case, as I have played T1/2/3 and Halflife2 on my new HD5870. I have emailed AMD directly to ask what the hell are they thinking..

And as I've just remembered a big part of AMD/ATi business is laptop chipsets...

What this means is that those with non-DX10 cards need to use Windows Vista drivers instead. A stupid decision by ATI, but not one that makes the cards unusable, or one that makes it impossible to play DX9- games.
