Am I the only one who think that we really need some bigger dungeons? - by Exodus_dk

*nod*
Respectable, but disagreeable.
The sole fun of it is to see how far deep you go... when I merely place my foot in something, and it goes to my ankle, I think pfft...
Now Ultima underworld, that was a proper dungeon *grin* should have a few of those in MW

Well, let's see I'm yet to actually explore a dungeon, the only one I found was crypt near a couple of eggminer near campfire I found at night where I got killed by a ghost and a skeleton in the first room. I'm on the 4th day and just finally delivered the package Claudius in Balmora, and sort have bad rep of Killing woman who appear outside of town asking for my assistance... and then prancing around in their dresses, yes my charachter is transvetite serial killing imperial who joined the Fighters guild... got to love Morrowind.

Heh. Funny!
I also prefer shallower dungeons (or more like caves and tombs) to the long ones in Daggerfall...the DF ones were long and monotone, as well as unlikely. The MW ones are much more interesting visually, and instead of being peppered with bugs/crawlies, they're filled with more challenging monsters - so you still get a nice feeling of accomplishment when you've completed the dungeon.
And you get it far more often :D
My reaction in DF was often: oh no, not ANOTHER floor...I want out!

Hi everyone-new member here...
I haven't started playing Morrowind yet as Amazon.co.uk have only just despatched it to me, but I can say with confidence that I will not miss those ludicrously huge Daggerfall dungeons one bit. I don't like dungeon crawling in the first place, there are no shops down there for one thing, the only people you meet want to slaughter you, it's dark, damp, dank and frankly creepy and the moisture dripping off those slimy walls ruins my hair :-)
I prefer being above ground really. I got so bored trailing round DF dungeons for hours on end along identical passages. I'd rather get the job over and done with.
Just a couple of questions: when you commit a crime in Morrowind do you get rewarded by a rendition of the familiar "Halt!" chorus?
Can you make friends with/flirt with people to get your own way or do you have to just bash them into submission?

I released a small dungeon mod already. But it was my first attempt with the editor. :)
Now I am currently working on a large scaled, unplanned, completely from the top of my head dungeon. Been pluggin at it for about 2 weeks. So far I have 2 complete cave area's already done. Am currently working on the underground town, that will be the "exploration hub" for the rest of the dungeon. I'll finish when I get tired of doing it I suppose. Got side-tracked last couple of days...been trying to make a "bat" mob for Morrowind. :P Hasn't gone to well, I', sad to say. I have only limited experience in working with 3d programs (Quake 2 maps for my husband and I to play over lan, capture the flag). So my bat came out looking like...well...hehe...like a 3d pile of virtual doo doo. :P And I cannot seem to get the bones set properly. I'll prolly head back into dungeon creation tonight.
I've been using the stock MW cave "mold cave" tile set, but last week or so I have been working on my own dungeon set, to add variety. (That and messing around with trying to import Ultima Underworld maps made me yern for some good old fashioned dungeons).
I'm mainly a lurker, but if you all are interested, I'll keep you some-what informed as the mod progresses.

Well, I can only agree that Ultima Underworld was one of the finest RPGs ever made(along with the ultimas from 5 or 6 up...) And if somebody makes a rerelease of UUW I'd be "mildly" happy and looking forward to it's release.
Lady E - it's nice to hear that somebody out there are making new dungeons - of considerable size. When you can play a darkelf - there really ought to be an underground city and a huge cavernous system related to it. Gotta love drows.
As for the sense of accomplishment - Damodred - I must say that I do not feel good about myself for the completion of a mindbogglingly easy task as walking through one of those tiny-weeny micro faggity dungeons that are so generously scattered throughout Vvardenfell... Quality before Quantity - when you just HAVE to choose.
If somebody is making a decent size dungeon - please toss in some puzzles - secret doors(I've only managed to find ONE in the entire game) - riddles and also NON-aggresive NPCs in the dungeons would be a really nice addition!

I love the number of places to explore.. But a few nice BIG dungeons would be great :)
But then i was weaned on the spectrum..then the bbc and the amiga..altho this is a long long long way from *you are in the misty mountains. Exits N NE W.Gandalf enters.* And i'm a nethack addict.. Eye of the Beholder - Dungeon Master etc..
Final decision on this one at the end of the trials of the nevarine.. if there are a few big dungeons to come in that lot i will be happy :) Agree with the dragons thing.. Dragons rule :)! - Oh to see one beautifully rendered in true morrowind fashion -

Dragons don't fit Vvardenfell!
Perhaps somewhere on the central continent of Tamriel...
However everybody keeps on rambling about dragons - yeah they are cool... however this is not D'n'D.
Remeber the DF manual? This is what it say about dragons:
Quote:
Dragons
The fairly common dragonling is a worthy opponent for any adventurer. It is capable of casting a number of powerful spells and healing itself in combat. Those who speak their language tell us that beneath a veneer of maddening riddles and non squiturs are minds of great wisdom.
Despite all their merits, dragonlings are less grand than their lineage would suggest. Explorers, sages, and archivists have argued for centuries over whether the great dragons of legends still live, if in fact they ever existed. The people of the Alik'r Desert insist that their vast plain of sand is home to a multitude of the Great Wyrms. Granting the nomads their propensity for tall tales, if there were a forsaken land where the great Dragons still fly undisturbed, it would indeed be the Alik'r Desert.
So actually I don't hope to see any dragons in Morrowind!

Hey, ho, wait a minute. There are big dungeons and small dungeons in MW. A really nice mix, if you ask me, and most seem unique, logical, realistic and very well thought out.
I personally think that megadungeons, like Castle Blackmoor, Underworld: The Stygian Abyss or NetHack, are a lot of fun....but most fantasy gamers don't agree. In my experience as an rpg referee, most players want city/town adventures; the thieves guild and other guilds, temples, city politics, palaces and courts, bar fights, shopkeepers, and the like. Why they prefer town settings over deep dark caves filled with snakes, I'll never know. ;)
So, I think that the mix of different kinds of dungeons and other experiences in Morrowwind is nearly perfect. :)

Oh, and exodus, stuff you and your silly lore. I don't want to hear it.. There may be no dragons in my morrorun at the moment, but I WILL have dragons there by the time I die. No ebonheart given me no stinkin' dragon statue... taunting me into blithering madness..
DRAGONS PZL!
