I'm not far enough in the story to be meeting vivec yet (still trying to get the damn houses to name hortator), but I was curious to see what was in the palace. I found a scroll that opens level 100 locks but when I cast it in front of the door it seems to cancel the spell midway. Is this a bug or is it intentional?

Intentional, but a Skeleton Key is able to open the lock. Also, you can pick pocket the palace key from the Arch Canon.

Pick pocket?!

You can pick someones pockets by sneaking up to them and clicking (right clicking?) on them. Make sure you have the sneak icon on.
I believe you get a random selection of stuff from their inventory to steal each time so you may need to pick pocket them severeal times to get a particular item...

Well, I sort of just broke in with a Grandmaster's pick. Vivec told me to leave, so I stole his important papers. Now they live on a shelf in MY house. :thumb:

Boy, I'm most of the way through the game and I didn't even know that. :p

And I thought by your user name you would have been doing a lot of thieving too! Oh well, better to know late than never eh?

This seems the most likely thread to post this question... it's not important eough for it's own thread, lol. Does anyone know why all the skeleton keys were replaced with Rusty Keys (apart the the one from Jim Stacey)? Did they do this in a patch?
Bugs on 4/8/2003 at 12:55
I think it must have been changed in one of the earlier patches as there is only one master key AFAIK in the X-Box version...
