Hi,
I am a new morrowind player. I have only been playing for a week or so. My character is a redguard scout. Last night I stepped into the water near pelagiad and killed a fish and then got out. When I got out of the water there was this strange sound that followed me around wherever I went... like a parasite, like a leach stuck to my body.
Sometimes the noise sounded like some creature smacking it's lips. At other times it sounded like radio static. At other times it sounded like someone elses footsteps. It was always present when I was in the exterior world unless I was talking to an NPC, but never present when I was in a building.
I don't know what my actual question is, though. I do not want anyone to give any secrets away. I have not found any mention of anything like this in any morrowind guide. I guess I just want to know if:
1) it is a common occurance in the game with which I should become familliar... and eventually I will figure out what it means?
or
2) if it is an affliction from which my charater will never recover so I might as well start my character over from a much earlier saved game?
thanks

I am thinking you may have changed your foot step sound... did you take off your boots?
You sure a kwama forager isn't following you?
"but never present when I was in a building"
I think something may be following you around... hit the tilde key when your in game and type "TWF" check around and see if anything is following you. If it's nothing "TWF" to turn it back off.
If it isn't that come back a guess well give you some other options. Its hard to think of what might sound like a sucking sound 6 am in the morning :P

The only thing I encountered that seems similar was an annoying sound that followed me around as soon as I made a step inside any of the dungeons. It sounded like a sprinkler system going mad, but it always stopped when I stood still. If I remember correctly, I had to deactivate EAX support to make it go away.

I believe Eshaktaar is correct, this problem is usually associated with something in your audio not being right.

I had a similar problem-I had a scrib stuck in my ear (or so it seemed). I had re-loaded Morrowind and it reset all of my settings (including audio) to the default. Try (if supported) having the audio processed by the hardware rather than the software. That solved the problem for me. I believe you will find the toggle for that under options and audio. I hope that helps (it's damned anoying).

Hi everybody,
Thanks for the replies. It seems like what was making the noises were netches. They were flooating around in the sky and were completely stagnant except for their tentacles. I did not even notice them at first. They looked like trees if I could see them at all. They were really loud so I could hear them even when they were too far away for me to see them.
I gather there are different kinds of netches. The one that I identified with my crosshairs was a "Bull Netch". I guess the female netches make a different sound, so there were several different noises.
Anyway... they are all over the place where I was near the southern shore like giant jelly fish in the sky. I assume it was they who were making the noises that sounded like they were blowing their noses in my ears. :p
thanks all

Glad to help.

Hehe, just don't attack the Netches, they tend to ignore you :) Don't do what I did and start shooting at them with a bow if you can't hit squat. EEP, run away!!!
