A situation like this requires a bit of tact.
I suggest you keep the monitor.

Rofl. I have acer monitor for about 2 years, if not more (so I guess the guarantee has expired or, if not, better get to work by killing it lol). If there are any "dead pixels", they are either covered with some smudge or not at all.
Those few smudgy thingies don't bother me really, maybe sometimes, but they are mostly my own damn fault for not cleaning. So far encountered no problems with the monitor itself.
That's my story, I can't really tell if you are ungrateful, those situations kinda suck.

I'm using a 15 inch 15 year old micron crt with a 20 inch ass so why don't you send your shitty ass acer to me.

He just likes to bitch, he'll never be happy, even if someone was jacking him off under the table while he was on line, he still wouldn't be happy about it. We still love him with all his edginess. Its just so exciting around here.

There's levels to this. In my view, the important thing about a gift isn't (or shouldn't be) price, but relevance. It's showing that you know what a person needs or likes, showing that you know them. So here's how it goes - if someone bought you a present that,
through no fault of their own, has a defect, like is the case here, there is simply no reason for which they should be upset in any way about you exchanging it for another item of the same model. If you exchange it for a different model (like getting a Samsung instead of an Acer), I don't think there should be offense, but, like Thirith pointed out, communication is very important so that you don't make them feel embarrassed about the situation in which they bought you a poor quality gift. And I'd definitely advise against trading it in and then paying a little extra for a better model, because that will likely make the giver feel like you think they were being cheap.
You're only being an outright ass if you exchange it for something else entirely, like a hard drive, or a bunch of Happy Meals, or if you trade it back in and keep the money, obviously.
I
think Dell does it too, on their Ultrasharps, and there's definitely some Dell (
http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=&products_id=331) resellers that do it.

Thanks, hope you enjoyed it, nice of you to take me so seriously! Don't do that, you don't have to take it so seriously, I fail at the kidding. :( Oh the drama.

Yes, it's not the best model. Yes, Samsung and Dell LCD's are awesome. Yes, you are an ungrateful little drama queen. Yes I
