I've been getting a lot of flak here today. I was given a huge 23" LCD monitor as a gift today. The problem? It's Acer. Acers suck. LCD sucks by default but Acer LCDs are the worst. I was able to (sort of) fix the completely-screwed-to-hell colour correction but there's a dead pixel close to the center of the screen. Acer's repair policy demands a certain minimum, and I only have the one- which is one more than I'm willing to tolerate. There really is no excuse for this shit. Especially since other companies
guarantee no dead pixels.
So I asked if it was possible to exchange- or preferably, return it, because if I have to have an LCD monitor I'd rather it be something that doesn't suck shitfuck out of a buttpump. And now I'm getting a load of shit- not from the giftgiver, mind, who actually asked me to test the monitor to make sure it worked properly- because apparently not wanting to accept
a defective product makes me ungrateful.
Is that bullshit? Or is that (

The answer is entirely dependant on who you got the thing from, but on such a generic and big ticket item like this, trying to get an exchange is totally reasonable and certainly not ungrateful to my mind.

Nope, Acer is shit....granted they're also cheap:ebil:
My buddy had that same flatscreen. One day he noticed that it started looking rather pale, and within 30 minute it had turned black with blue lines.

I'm pretty sure if I dropped that kind of cash on a gift I'd want the recipient to be damn happy with it. Take it back and get the one you want.

This.
LCD quality can vary wildly even among monitors of the same make and model. If I got someone an LCD as a gift, I could understand them running to the store and swapping it out a couple of times til they're happy, or just getting a refund and upgrading to something a little higher on the quality scale. I say you do what you need to do.

I agree with what's been said before, but I think the question whether you're ungrateful or not depends on how you communicate your reaction. I think you can still respect the thought behind the present while being quite clear about the fact that spending the money on an Acer is basically a waste of money. FWIW.

Which companies are those? When looking for a good and cheap monitor last year, I didn't come across a single one that was a Class 1 (no dead pixels or subpixels) - they were all Class 2 (AFAIK 2 dead pixels per million or 5 dead subpixels).

Forget the flak throwers, they ain't gonna have to sit in front of a dodgy monitor. Go get a swap.
