So it's never explained in game? I suppose it might be because these areas have unique weather conditions, and it's hard to ensure those with a day-night cycle. Like the possibility of Yantar at night probably brings out the possiblity of a bright cheery Yantar during midday. Still hard to call a place the Dark Valley if it's never night. Shame. Oh well, onwards to the brain scorcher!

Dark Valley is called so because it's always sunless in there.

Yeah, but as a result of that, it's also always uh... moonless. Like, yeah, it's always gloomy and cloudy, but it's also never night. Oh well, must be a limitation of the engine.

I always thought it was just Yantar and Red Forest and it was something to do with the emitters. I'll have to check the others (Pripyat and Chernobyl might make sense for the same reason, or some radiation anomalousness. But Dark Valley is a weird one to leave out.)

That's how I always try to look at it. Make it part of the game and it's less noticeable.

Anyone have any idea why this is?
It's The Zone. You don't need a reason.

It wouldn't hurt to get some background story about those "timeless" areas though.

True in a way, however it is a game with more than a couple bugs, and I'm not willing to wholesale explain away every quirk as "It's the Zone, you don't need a reason."
Why do my quicksaves not work? "It's the Zone"
Why do other characters occasionally run into corners and fire to their immediate right when I am directly in front of them? "It's the Zone"
I was just wondering if there was some kind of in game explination that lets me know that, yes, this is supposed to be here, it is not a bug or a quirk of having to cut back on things. It doesn't need to be a big explination like "This is exactly why there is no day-night cycle in these places" just so much as someone else in game commenting on how it's weird would be nice.
At it stands now it seems distinctly like it's not the way it ought to be, some limitation of having a unique and constant weather cycle that precludes it from also having a proper day-night cycle.

:laff:
It should be a part of a marketing campaign. On the box: "Warning: The Zone can directly or indirectly affect the itegrity of the game".

Permanent day and murky weather in some areas are specifically set for the maps. It's most definitely not a bug. I believe they wasn't supposed to be special anomaly zones or something, devs just wanted them to always stay with gloomy daylight that's all :)
