All these tv programs come under 'missing cultural references' tag for me; I was not brought up in Britain, but have lived here for long enough to have become aware of them, without necessarily having seen them.
However, while listening to BBC radio 4, I heard an interview with the creator of Clangers. Apparently, the shows actually had a dialogue script, even though the characters communicated by whistling (the dialogue was whistled out, keeping the syllable count and the general intonation, but was entirely unintelligible). One day, the dialogue went 'sod it, the bloody door's jammed again!' - and this was censored by the BBC!
Years later, when the 'talking' clanger toys were to became available, the makers of the toys approached the show's creator, and asked him for a piece of dialogue to attach to the knitted rodents. He obliged by supplying the line quoted above. So, anyone who owns a toy Clanger: now you know what it actually says!

Weren't you scared by that Kia Ora advert? I tell you - I've never looked at a crow the same way since!I thought it was cool  You can listen to the ad, as well as numerous other 80's soundbites, on that site I linked to above, if you want to freak yourself out.....

Foul mouthed space rodents, corrupting an entire generation :grr: Say what you will about the chanty Bagpuss mice, at least they kept it clean!
We will fix it, we will fix it, we will stick it with glue glue glue.....we will stickle it, every little bit of it, we will fix it like new new new!
Oh and on the subject of mice-the greatest mystery of Kid's TV-WHY DIDN'T DANGERMOUSE HAVE A TAIL???? It just looked wrong!
Lacerta on 6/3/2003 at 09:21
You know - I never thought to wonder why Dangermouse didn't have a tail? Maybe it got trapped one time when he slid down that chute to the car? Was a very fab show.. I ended up with the nickname "Penfold" for years at school due to being little, roundish and having glasses half the size of my head... (was far better than being called Baron Greenback..) And can anyone remember the name of the caterpillar?
Jordana Chal on 6/3/2003 at 22:31
Penfold, eh? Ahhhhhhh!
The albino caterpillar was called "Nero". Hmmm.
I only recently noticed DM's lack of tail, but I'm sure it must have made balancing difficult for him. And it loked ungainly.

S'true - the size of saucers they were those glasses..

Which, the 80's kids tv (with potential modding inspiration for those with the technical know-wots), the loveable Orcs (again! modding ops), Ania's fantastic photo's or the general ramblings? (Am quite sure it can't be my childhood over sized specs)
How's about the bagpuss mice as morrowind repair merchants?
[Edit] Hmm.. bizarre.. whoever posted the post I replied to (and identically in two other threads) must have decided to delete  - I'm not *totally* bonkers and posting answers to voices in my head!)
[Edit] Honest! :wot:

Come on, Lacerta, what were you replying to? The (allegedly) deleted question cannot be divined from your answer! I think we should be told!

Nothing too bizarre in itself - a random new member just wrote something along the lines of "This is a very interesting thread" with a thumbs up...
and on two other threads....
and then deleted them all five minutes later...
Well.... it takes all sorts to make the world go round!
