Sorry to hear about the mess you and your family are in. My own experiences have often led me to think that while the system is broken, most nurses, and some doctors, do their damndest to make up for it. It's still far from a good situation, but you can see them doing their best in a bad situation, and it really helps. I can't imagine what I'd do if I had to deal with the level of indifference you're getting. Best of luck to all of you.

The British Health system is complete disarray and mess. The Doctors and Nurses mostly do what they can.
Even so. I wish you and your family all the hope it is all sorted out for you.
The peoples involved should be taken to task.

it seems like a lot of this is simply symptoms of the countries broken health care system as opposed to isolated problems within themselves.
True dat...EXCEPT for when my dad is two hours late on pain meds and I go to the nurses station to find four of them standing around a PC monitor laughing at some e-mail joke. I was almost on the news.
Obviously they are sometimes busy with Real Things, but what I hate is when they act like it's the most efficient facility on the planet, when they actually know that they can't do half the things they promise. When I asked if I should stay with my dad for the afternoon, they assured me there was no reason - they HAVE to take care of everything (insurance reasons, blah, blah)...what would be the harm in simply saying, "Hey, we're up to our tits in work right now, and if you want to stay that'd be great - we may be a little behind answering his call button." I'd be much more inclined to cut them slack at that point. But when they bullshit me about how they're going to be his guardian angels and can't change a fucking colostomy bag every four hours, it pisses me right the fuck off.

Can't you just basically pay over every penny you have and get your kid to some kind of special clinic? You probably have, I dunno
Yeah - this gastro-specialist is one of the best. I find though that typically good doctor=suckass staff and good staff=suckass doctor. She's been great but everyone else I've encountered in the clinic are lying lazy bastards. We're working towards a solution to the problem but it takes so damn long to get tests done and results back. In the meantime we're trying special diets, and researching (safe) ways to keep him upright or at least at an extreme angle while sleeping. Those of you who've had reflux know how painful that shit can be - you just want to cut your head off with a rusty spoon to relieve the constant burning.
EDIT: Just heard from mom and apparently Mr. CEO's presence in the ward yesterday made quite an impression. They seem to have gotten their shit together. We'll see how the day goes...
