My advice is to take notes on everything, and let the medical staffs know you are doing it. Get dates and specifics from them, let them know you are reading up on their stated policies and such. Make them tell you everything they are doing and follow up with it. If that doesn't scare the bejesus out of them and their uncaring attitudes and practices, then you've got yourself a fist full of evidence with witch to sue the toenails off them.
It sucks that you have to turn into an anal retentive hardass and you won't make any friends doing it, but hopefully you'll either get proper care for your dad and kid or else maybe you'll end up owning those golf clubs.
I'm completely against people suing for malpractice for piddly reasons- it's one of the reasons I can barely afford the minimal crappy health insurance I have- but from the sounds of it, you can use a potential lawsuit as a lever to get the kind of care they're supposed to give.

fett, I'm sorry your family is going through a lengthy and unnecessary crisis. imho you should definitely bring these complaints to the attention of anyone who's in power to make a difference: hospital admins, local news, city council. Problems you describe happen often and world over, but changes can and should be made. Channel your outrage into the right direction and you have a decent chance of making things better. I hope your dad recovers swiftly and your baby's disorder diagnosed and treated soon.

I hope you can find better care for your family, fett. This sort of abuse and neglect is frightening. Your dad and your child are lucky to have a strong and dedicated advocate such as yourself. I wonder about people who don't have anyone in their corner and how much worse it can be for them.
I recently had a ten day stay in hospital for internal surgery and although my care was timely, compassionate and generally competent (not to mention life saving) I did have to keep constant watch. I asked about every pill and needle, I had to negotiate for treatment options and educate myself about the same, I had to repeatedly remind one nurse to use alcohol swabs before jabbing me and remind all staff that I was supposedly in isolation and that they should wear gowns and gloves around me. And I had real food brought in...
But there is a difference between being a proactive patient and fighting the sort of abuse that your dad and child are subject to. The horror stories out of the States do seem worse than those in Canada. I don't know if the quality of care is that much better here. I wonder if the public system we have here inspires more compassion than a private system or if it is just that here we don't have to go bankrupt to suffer medical neglect.
I hope things get better for you and your family soon.

You might concider trying somthing else with your baby. My chiroracator was able to totally fix my mom when she was pregnant with me after sevearly burning her espophogus wwith vitaman C. My problem with doctors is that they have so much knowledge and science behind them, but they have the deductive abilitys of a fucking slug. Its definatly worth a try, I was taken when I was real young, I dont know how many will work on young children and I cant speak for the quality of all chiropractors, but it might be worth a shot. At this point you need somthing and when conventional fails you gotta try somthing new, you might be surprised, you can pretty much assume it wont hurt anything.

You need to COMPLAIN to relevant board/authority about what has happened fett. And yes DOCUMENT incidents with dates, time of day, your signature at the end of what you write (lawyers can correct me if there's more you need to write etc).

My god, that's fucking awful. The poor baby. Call a lawyer, man. There's something seriously wrong at that hospital, and at that clinic. And I know it doesn't help but our thoughts, and anger, are with you.
