Welcome, I guess. A word of advice regarding the Thief forums: don't ask about the possibility of Thief 4 being made or start a thread about what was/wasn't done wrong in T3 and you should be fine.
The fan missions and Editor's Guild forums are generally the most polite, if you're curious.

welcome woodsiegirl <strike>new person</strike>, just make sure to keep thief-related content in the thief forums - most people in commchat don't care, since they are either occasional thief players, played it ages ago and don't care to talk about it too much, or haven't played it at all.

And like to pretend that this isn't a forum mostly about videogames, or that CommChat is somehow a totally different entity.
ASIDE FROM THAT
welcome, all you need to learn is that writing T:DS results in a :D in the middle, so you either need a space between the : and the D or just type TDS.
I know, it's TeDiouS but that's life
I KNOW IT'S AN AWFUL PUN
EDIT: you just ninja'd me t:Dt

Yes, we may have come here because of video games but as is frequently pointed out: that's not why many people stay (
especially true of CommChat).

No dinner?

That's one thing, but there's a considerable trend to get all inward and protective when people just start posting in CommChat who've been active in lots of the other forums here, let alone totally new members.
Sluggs was a prime example; there are certain members who hardly contribute anything more worthwhile yet are tolerated just because they've already been part of the rich tapestry that is CommChat for x number of years.
EDIT can people stop ninja'ing me itt pls
EDIT oh never mind this is hardly serious business
Scots Taffer on 23/4/2006 at 10:01
Not serious business, but business nonetheless. Funnily enough, I had a chat with Shug about all this sort of stuff - the trends of CommChat over the years, the IRC kru in and out of it, the occasional posters, the regulars, and what constitutes the sort of mentality that exists.
I do understand that many regular posters (myself included) can jump on a poor new person or a poorly worded post by a not-so-regular poster and get all: YAAAR WITTY COMMENT/RANDOM INSULT/GIF THUMBNAIL HILARITY! I SCORED AN ELITE POINT, WHERE AM I ON THE SCOREBOARD NOW? But that's part of the tapestry here too, lest we forget, there used to be the ritualistic hazing of newbs by the likes of sailoreage etc, and although our form of it can seem somewhat harsh and perhaps nasty to those semi-regular TTLG posters, the fact is that 9 times out of 10, the new poster doesn't get it! So, in many cases, I don't see the harm done by the occasional ribbing (plus, if you can't handle getting poked with sticks, WHAT THE FUCK are you doing on the internet anyway, much less Commchat) as long as it stays within the boundaries of good taste and isn't been too vindictive or personal, then I say: GAME ON.
And also, may I point out, that one of the management once said something along the lines of: "if a new member immediately starts posting in CommChat, warning bells go off in our heads", now I know I'm repeating that out of context (originally I think it was to do with spam accounts) but I feel that it applies to the mentality evident here - this isn't the same as the rest of TTLG, to be honest.

In all communities there's some sort of initiation test-thingy for newcomers - even in workplaces and such, where we're supposed to be Sensible Adults. It's usually poking and teasing, and if you can prove you can laugh at yourself, you're accepted. If you instantly get offended, the teasing will go on until you either leave or learn the rules ;)
Humans are pack animals, after all, and despite the thin illusion of "civilisation", we behave accordingly.
