Heh. I like the ring that a word like 'metafail' has to it.
This game here looks interesting. It's got an 'original script', apparently. So it's obviously not going to win over the hearts of the hardcore Aliens fans that have cemented it into the geek action flick hall of fame for the past 20 years.
As a decent FPS, it shouldn't be too hard for Sega to get it right. They're ripping their production design straight from the movie anyway, so that's most of the conceptual work done right there.
They've still got some work to do on the execution bit, though. Like the Aliens, for instance. They look more mechanical than biomechanical in the stills, like animatronic refugees from Stan Winston's studios... which I guess they kind of were, considering the source.
The movie dealt with that by shooting the scenes featuring the aliens with dark, moody lighting. The aliens in these screens seem to feature in bright, well-lit shots, which isn't the best way to go with this particular brand of monster.

Alien vs. Predator on the Atari Jaguar kicked ass back in the mid-90s. lol. Well, I liked it anyways. Was one of the scarier games I've played. ESPECIALLY as the marine... when you see that big ass Kevin Peter Hall fuckin predator....all i could think was RUN AND HIDE....the 1st time I came to one in the open area, I was like...yeah...thats ur big ass...I got u know...then I'm restarting within 5 seconds. That bastard used the shoulder cannon and sniped me. lol. When I came to him again, I was weaving, left and right so he couldnt shoot me. Well, this pissed him off, hand to hand he basically ripped my ass off and fed it to me. So I'm like, WTF? Everytime after I was worried, lol. Was a very good game tho. It's been 12 years, but from what I remember, as the Marine, you had to destroy the mother alien, and evacuate. As the predator, I think the same, with slight variations. As the alien you had to get to the queen and protect her, or something of that nature. Like I said, 12 years, lol. I been lookin for another Jag with AvP and all 3 controller overlays. I'd like to play it again.

Just read that they're including some kind of quicktime event close combat thing, where an alien grabs you and you somehow manage to poke it in the eye or something(?). Thats lame. One of those things grabs you, you should be utterly screwed, not able to beat it up.

i actually like the idea but i hope they dont overdo it. being constantly grabbed and poking aliens in the eye (?) gets somewhat old an ruins some of the atmosphere. and id prefer if it were a button-mashing evasion instead of accurate-timing evasion.
p.s. (somewhat offtopic and somewhat spoillerish) in an Aliens comics (i believe the album was called berserker) theres this hive killing team of 5 members and a cyborg/suit where one guy (pointman) puts on a mask (shielding his mouth) and gets grabbed and dragged to the hive (to get impregnated) so the cyborg can home into his signal and beat the crap out of them. really cool.

The novel based on that is really really good. One of the few Aliens novels that really grabbed me emotionally.
