Joss Whedon of all the people should shut up. It is exactly his derivative, ironic, anything's possible narrative style with paper thin characters playing it way too cool that we see in Resurrection. The same style that almost killed Batman in the 90s.
I didn't mind when he made shallow tv series about vampires that my little sister watched religiously. But some things are not to be made fun of. And Whedon should have never been let anywhere near Alien. Might as well read fanfic.

Yeah, I appreciate Whendon's ensemble cast style and he has plenty of winners, but him working on Alien is almost as random as Jeunet working on Alien. That said, my understanding is that he basically just wrote what Fox told him to on that one.

I think Kolya's pretty off on Whedon, but regardless of this, I have no idea whether Whedon's style could work in an Alien film (it's not as if the first three films weren't wildly different in terms of tone). What I do know is that Whedon's skills are primarily verbal, whereas Jeunet was a strongly visual director with little command of the English language. It would've been a surprised if it had worked.

I used to be a snob re: Buffy, thinking that it was a load of puerile rubbish. Then I actually watched it. Now, as with most TV series, there are a lot of flaws - but the series does a lot of things amazingly well, and it's got some episodes that I'd unhesitatingly put up there with the best that TV has to offer.

Buffy was good up to when she killed herself. That was like the end of the second last season I think. After that it was half half.
Angel on the other hand started off good and got better as it went along.
