I won't be watching the film until it's on Netflix or TV, and I expect that I'd be annoyed by a lot that people criticise - yet at least Matt Zoller Seitz, one of my favourite critics, loved the film, and while I don't always agree with him, I think he usually makes some good points. If he likes a film, I'm sure I'll get *something* out of it.
Also, henke is a good egg and has yet to shoot me in the back when playing Arma, so I'll take his opinion into account.
... then again, I seem to remember that henke's way of celebrating a successful heist in GTA V was to punch me in the head. Urge to dismiss his film criticism: rising.
:p

And I agree with Henke as well.
Though I'm not sure if I'd rate it above Alien 3, as there were bits that I liked in that. It was just a big disapointment after Aliens, that's all. It's certainly FAR SUPERIOR to Alien Resurrection and the AvP movies. I'd have to rewatch it at some later point. Prometheus in comparison I'm not interested in watching again.

Now to completely undermine whatever credibility I might have when it comes to Alien movies by standing up for Alien Resurrection
I liked it! Sure it threw everything that came before it under the bus, but it was also filled to the brim with weird, interesting, and fun stuff. Let's stack up the pros and cons of Resurrection and you'll see I'm right on this.
PROS:
-Jean-Pierre Jeunet's wonderful visual style. You all liked Amelie, right? Well, Alien Resurrection is basically just Amelie in Space!
-Dan Hedaya and Brad Dourif playing it ALL THE WAY over the top.
-the scene where 2 aliens kill the 3rd alien just to escape the cage.
-Ron Perlman and his merry band of French weirdoes.
-the clones scene.
-the one guy who had two guns and was cool.
-the underwater scene.
-when the sad alien gets sucked out of a tiny hole in the window.
CONS:
-Winona Ryder
See! The good far outweighs the bad!
ALIEN RESURRECTION STATUS AS GOOD MOVIE: CONFIRMED

I'm on your side in that respect (except I don't mind Winona Ryder). It's my least favourite Alien film, but there's still a lot I like about it - and I do like the fact that from Alien to Alien Resurrection every film and every director brought entirely new things to the table, without having the arrogance to retcon things.
icemann on 29/5/2017 at 13:00
Ok I liked all of those scenes but the movie was still terrible.
How did the marines go from kickass (Aliens) to laughably terrible.

To me, Resurrection (largely) works until the underwater scenes. After that, it turns to utter shit.
SubJeff on 29/5/2017 at 19:35
I think Resurrection does have a few things going for it (and I really like Winona) but it's immaterial.
Overall it's rubbish.
I learnt some new things today. Namely that a lot of you are much more blase and forgiving about films than I. Vivian is probably the only one I agree with in here.
I shan't be taking any recs from you guys on sci-fi, that's for sure.

I bet you all hated Arrival.
And like the Star Wars prequels.

I hated everything! \o/

Jar Jar Binks vs. Resurrection's baby alien - who would win!?!
