Vodka, because it is cheap and can be mixed with almost anything. I love a great Irish whiskey, as well as a decent American bourbon, or a nice Scotch. Love beers of all types, but tend to go with ales - mostly IPAs. I used to brew my own back in the late 80s and early 90s, but then it became so much easier just to buy great beer at the store.
As for brewing, you can save a lot of hassle by using malt extracts. Yes, it is not as "cool" as mashing your own grains, but it does make some decent brew. I never tried to brew a lager. Only pale ales and stouts. Most batches were good, mostly tasting similar to Newcastle Brown Ale. There were 2 batches that were not so great. I made one dark beer that the yeast I used could not really "eat". It came out at only about 2% APV, but tasted almost like Coca Cola. The worst was an attempt to make a honey mead beer. The result was the most vile sulfur smelling shite! 5 gallons makes about 2 cases of beer (give or take), so I hade 48 beers that were stinky as all get out. So what to do with it? Have a Monopoly drinking game party! :joke: You land on someone's land, you have to take a swig! It didn't make anyone sick. Actually, if you let it breath a bit, it was not half bad. ;) Most of the batch was gone in a night.
