finally started walking to balmora and stopped off at a guard tower right before it. One vendor had something called a retort and an alembac, i heard that these are for alchemy and help with it somehow, does anyone know how you use them, and also are there any lighter ones? they're like 6 lbs each and my chatracter already gets pretty bogged down with all the ingredeants he carries and whatnot.
man wish there was an item that reduced your load

A retort increases the potency and duration of all positive effects when making potions. An alembic decreases potency and duration of negative effects. A calcinator increases all effects. You use them along with the mortar and pestle. Just equip them in the open slots when mixing ingredients.
I'm not sure on the weight, but there are more and less powerful versions (like journeyman's, grandmaster's, etc.) much like lockpicks or probes.

The higher quality ones are lighter. If you drop one alchemy tool on your picture you automatically use them all.
The spell "feather" reduces your load. If you enchant an item with feather you have an item that reduces your load. But that'd be really expensive.

Just for the record, all of the information about alchemy tools is in the manual. Unless, of course, you're playing a pirated copy and don't have the manual.

Buying those alchemy doo-dads is what finally made me establish a home base (in some dead guy's manor in Balmora). I've got a chest full of ingredients along with my alchemy equipment set nearby.
There's a "quest" that gives you 100 Feather for at least a full game day...let me tell you, I was living the high life for that day!

hey, for any of u Alchemy buffs, i have a question.. i have found Grandmaster's Mortle & Pestle, Alembic, and Retort (locations in spoiler below), but i only have master's Calcinator. Im not sure if there is only one copy of each of those items (altho ive seen 2 or 3 M&P but only one of the other two) and if anyone knows where i can find the Grandmaster's Calcinator, I'd like to know. thanks
[SPOILER]The Grandmaster's M&P is sold in the Alchemist Balmora shop, the Grandmaster's Pestle is in Tel Vos, and the Alembic is in between Wolverine Hall and the main area of Sadrith Mora. All of these are for legitamate sale in Alchemist's shop, so none are major secrets.[/SPOILER]
