I'm trying to solve the soul gem bet @ the Mages guild in Balmora, but it doesn't seem to work... or better... it's me who is doing something wrong.
I left the fake soul gem on the book on Galbedirs desk and then returned, without stealing :angel: , Ajira. She keeps on asking me if I put the gem on the desk and there's no way I can aswer her and finish this duty... :mad:
Anyone of you has an idea how to solve this, so that I can go on with the other Ajira-duties? It must be something very simple, is it?

Activate the desk and place the gem inside it, rather than on top of it.

yeah, and while your at it, steal all the other gems and sell em!! :ebil:

Only steal the Grand and Greater soulgems. The others really aren't worth it, though you can if you like. I also think I remember the soulgems not selling for anywhere near their value.

Just remember that if you steal any of the soulgems (even just transferring to your inventory and back to the desk will do it) will mark all of that type of item stolen as far as that person is concerned... so you won't be able to enchant with her later....
Had the whole stupid Mages Guild after me once because of it.
