Ho!
Finally decided not to be such an ass and restart Morrowind everytime I reach Balmora so progress has been made! Finally! Anyway, I'm a female Nord Axeman but for some reason, decided to join the Mage's Guild since I'm just playing this round as a quick look into the whole game before I step away from cheating and play properly. So I got this bunch of quests from Ajira to find alchemic recipies but she sends me on a looooong chase when the items she requests for can be found in various shops/NPC's and the roads along Pelegiad and Seyda Neen. Morrowind is huge and I'm too lazy to go check out the places she mentioned. Am I missing anything by NOT going to where she asks?
And is there any way at all to stop those blasted Dark Brotherhood assassins from attacking? I've encountered around 8 so far.
Anyone else got scared when exploring the "dungeons"?
I'm around level 15 now and when I woke up, I had a dream about some tall figure, lipless people and me not being able to breathe. What's that all about? (No spoilers please. Thanks. Just brief description of what it's for if possible.)

1. I'm not sure if I understand what you mean by "missing anything" If you don't go and get those mushrooms, then you probably can't get more quests from Ajira and it will be more difficult to advance in the Mages Guild. But you don't have to do the quests. You don't have to do anything, apart from in the first 5 minutes during character generation. I've never actually played the Mages Guild quests, though, so I'm not sure.
2. Those assassins are to do with Tribunal. In my game, they stopped showing up when you speak to a guard (ie an Ordinator, Imperial Legionary, or House Guard) and then they tell you about how to go to Mournhold.

Hmm. I already spoke to the Balmora guards before posting this topic and they directed me to Ebonheart. They still appear though.
And I ment if I was going to miss anything big like an encounter with an NPC or get a quest somewhere along the routes which Ajira directed me to.

I think what CoK is asking is: can he just buy the mushrooms from some nearby shop (or hand over ones he already picked), instead of heading off into the wilderness to pick some.
Answer being yep, you can. You'll miss a chance to encounter dungeons, random monsters, the occasional minor quest from some person lost in the woods etc, but these can be found at any other time anyway. There are no advantages, specific to that quest, of trekking out to wherever the questgiver tells you to find an item, if you can get that item more easily from nearby.
RyushiBlade on 11/1/2004 at 20:19
I'd so go ahead and buy the items. There aren't very many people worth meeting around Balmora anyway (with the exception of (maybe) Snowy Slopes. But he tries to kill you as soon as you see him and if you're lower-leveled, he'll splatter you all over the ground.)
As for that dream of yours, there isn't much I can tell you without spoiling anything. This doesn't reveal too much, but don't be inclined to read it if you wanna find out for yourself:
Dagoth Ur awakens...
Who? Where?
I don't remember meeting this person. :o

Help! Where is the witch that has stolen the Nord's equipment? You know the Nord wandering near Caldera and asking you to help him find the witch that has stolen his axe or something.

She's standing in the middle of no where northwest ( I'm not sure) of where you meet the nord.

Snowy Slopes is the crazy-ass old guy standing on the bridge that runs overhead of Buckmouth Fort. The bridge that you have to cross to get to the Puzzle Box ruins. I've never tried talking to him (that is, sneak close, stand up, and talk immediately before he can react). Does he say anything ? I thought he always just attacked. Personally, I've never found him intesting at all.
CoK - if you're talking about the naked Nord who asks you to help him retrieve Cloud Cleaver, check (
http://www.buttersky.com/morrowind/#cloudcleaver) here.
If you disable Tribunal in the Data Files menu when you first start the game, all Tribunal scripts will be turned off, and you won't get attacked by Dark Brotherhood assassins until you turn the expansion pack back on. But I'm not sure what affect it will have on your saved games, if you've already talked to the guards, and the guy in Ebonheart.
If you want to kill all the Dark Brotherhood assassins and stop them from attacking, that requires a trip to Mournhold (via the guy in Ebonheart), and if you've got a low-level character, trying to start Triubunal fights and quests will end badly for you right now. Wait a while.
Here's a tip: if you need to rest, but don't want to get attacked by Dark Brotherhood baddies, take a long boat ride or silt strider trip. It will cost a little money, but you will Rest during the trip. But IIRC, it won't count as the "Rest" you need if you're ready to level up. But it will renew your health.

I seem to remember reading that 'depending on your level you may get attacked [by the Dk Brotherhood] up to nine times'
This implies that whether you go to Mournhold or not the attacks will stop eventually (I could be wrong, I hasten to add!). But the assassins are levelled, so they are beatable whatever your level, and are a source of great armour (to wear or to sell, whatever is your preference)
