It's actually ridiculous to consider Abrahamic faiths starting holy wars againts each other when you realise how very much they have in common.

Not when you realise that the very much they have in common includes a pathological hatred for anyone who doesn't follow their particular creed

This may not be true but I have noticed that similar religions have much more heated debates/fights. E.g. Protestants vs Catholics, different brands of protestants vs different brands of protestants IIRC, sunni vs shiite, christians vs muslims, etc. Of course confounding factors are regional proximity and nationalistic conflicts.
I would argue that the Trinitarian God is incompatible with the Islamic god.
ercles on 12/10/2006 at 08:28
Well the concept of a Trinitarian God is one that is very malleable depending on who you talk to even within a specific church.
And Stronts, lets not confuse religion with human nature. You show me where Jesus preaches the pathological hatred of someone and then I'll agree with.

Is there a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law">Godwin's Law</a> for Islam now or something?

Well, you'd expect their most direct competitors to be the most similar religions/organisations. Like with two similar species of fish competing for a niche in the context of a waterway, or two businesses that supply the same goods or services to a common market, the biggest threat to you is usually whoever could most easily usurp your role. Plus humans (both as individuals and collectively) are good at holding grudges, of course.
