Why do Brits/Aussies say names that end in an A say them like there's an R at the end? Like Al Kyder, Madonner. I don't get it, but maybe someone with some linguistic skills can point me in the right direction. That video was funny though, Convict :)
I thought it was Americans that used the "terminal R". All the Brits I know pronounce Madonna like "muh-DONN-uh".
And yes, the "no carry-on idea" is stupid. There were reports of people in the UK who had to break into their own home after putting their house keys in checked luggage which promptly went missing. Sensible travellers take anything important like keys and phones as hand luggage for precisely this reason.

It's both terrible and impractical. You want to take away someone's inhaler or insulin and force them to trust their lives to a flight attendant they've never met? Would this actually make anyone feel safer?
Here's a hint: Terrorists do not have a vendetta against airplanes. These days, an attack on an airport packed with irritable travelers held back by stupid and questionable security measures would kill far more people than an airline bomb could hope to. Attacking the terminal would be far more deadly than taking out a plane or two.

Unless you do something 9/11 with it, but I think that point has been made now, and short of levelling NYC more of the same wouldn't piss off the World Leaders all that much more.
By which I mean that Terrorism-wise they're likely as narked as they'll get

That's odd. We hear American accents as adding "R" where there isn't one.

Hmm, thanks for the oppinions guys, but I can't help but disagree with Strotium Dog. :ebil:
Seriously, to those of you who said it's ridiculous because 'there isn't a problem', then explain to me why the airlines are doing so much worse since 9/11. It boils down to the fact that people don't want to be harrased with security measures and that people don't want to take the risk, no matter how small. For god sake, you have to arrive 3 hours before your flight at most airports because of all the security.
For those who think that it's taking security too far, I want you to tell me whether this is more of a pain in the ass than being strip searched because you bought your ticket the day you flew, or if it's more of a pain in the ass than standing in the never ending metal detector line where you have to take your shoes off, open your laptop, reset your phone, empty your pockets, throw away your cigarette lighters, gatorade, rasors, and aeresol cans, and take your watch off. IMO, what a waste of effort, especially considering how often (not) people get caught smuggling bombs in their shoes.

I get the impression you don't fly very often. In the past few years I've flown a LOT, and I've flown in and out of pretty much all of the busiest airports in the US with the exception of JFK. And I'm telling you, from my first-hand experience, that no one really cares about it. They get there a little earlier, they all good-naturedly comply with whatever they're asked to do... shit, I've even seen TSA guys telling people to put their shoes back on because they aren't doing that today.
Some airlines are doing poorly because a) fuel costs and airport fees are going through the roof, b) many of them are being mismanaged into the dirt, and c) the worse off the airlines get the more they cut costs by reducing staff / reducing flights / reducing services, and you might imagine that makes people even less inclined to travel by air if they don't have to.
But guess what, people aren't deciding not to fly.
The major US airlines are still experiencing an
increase in passengers, yet all the while losing money. Don't confuse financial problems with a decrease in traffic. The fact of the matter is that the price of jet fuel is what's causing some airlines to go under.
I think you are just ignoring the reported reality because it doesn't fit with your hypothesis which, if I may cut and paste, went something like:

We all know that because of all the measures being taken to secure the airlines from terrorism, the airlines are progressivly doing worse and worse financially. It is also no seceret that many people are simply unwilling to fly for safety reasons.

Just put snakes on an airplane floor, if you want to walk out you get a snake bite.
Modaphooking snakes on an airplane?
No, all of the airplanes.
