i killed that hasphat dude or wutever in balmora fighters guild. the one for the main mission and now caisus wont even talk to me.. but i have already did that mission. im on the xbox ver. is there nething i can do

Hasphat first gets you to fetch something from Arghathand (sp?), then gives you info and I think notes for Caius. Have you had the notes?
On Xbox all I can think of is maybe you could charm Caius somehow? Bump up your personality- a spell and/or Telvanni Bug Musk will help. Charm him, again with a spell. If he still won't talk to you, then I really don't know. Earlier save? Restart?

Isn't there a "back door" to completing the game, in case the main quest gets fucked up somehow?

Sorry bud, but I think that back door for the game is your only option... maybe.
Try travelling to the Nerevarine place to get the Moon-and-star ring. I found that place before I started the main quest and as soon as I took the ring, I had skipped the whole half of the main quest. So try that. You might still be able to finish the game the way you should, and skip a lot of the 'small' quests. But you still have to be named Hortator and Nerevarine...
